Condolences
Cal was a true Prince of a Man! As a young constable starting my career in the early 90’s with CPS I was fortunate to have Cal as one of my District Sergeants. He was always kind and patient when working with the “newbies”. He was never judgemental and treated all with respect. I thoroughly enjoyed the hours on shift when Cal was the Boss! Rest easy Cal!

Our sincerest condolences to your entire family. Wendy and Colin Laker
Another fine officer that I respected and enjoyed working with. Such an easy going guy and always upbeat. A honest and hardworking man, just what our police service needed. So sad to hear of his passing.

Cal and I were partners in the Major Crimes Child Abuse Unit for nearly 4 years. We investigated 100’s of sad cases. Through it all Cal somehow had a way of making the work tolerable and rewarding. His approach to all victims, witnesses and suspects of all ages and ethnicity set an example to officers working around him. He was respected and loved by his peers at CPS and showed everyone how you are able to balance some of the most stressful work and keep your loving family and great character intact. Cal you had such a great influence on me and my approach to work and family. I so enjoyed the platefuls of 10 cent wings and the endless one-liners and jokes. RIP Cal.

It was my privilege to know Cal as a 30 year career prosecutor in Calgary. He was an outstanding investigator but more importantly a very caring and kind individual. It was a pleasure working with him. In all those years and probably hundreds of very complex and stressful cases I prosecuted with Cal as lead investigator I do not recall him ever raising his voice to me or speaking an unkind word about anyone.I have been retired from my career as a prosecutor for many years and can still remember fondly working with Cal. You have left us too soon. GOD BLESS YOU CAL. Rest in peace. .

Cal was one of my trainers during my CID training. I will always be thankful for his expertise, his patience and as mentioned prior, his sense of humour. As I recall he also introduced me to my first plate of chicken and chips at the old St Louis Hotel which had to be washed down with a cold one. My condolences to the family, he will be missed by many.
Cal was my first officer coach when hitting Calgary's streets in the summer of 1980. In addition to being a wise, patient, and experienced trainer, Cal could always be trusted to inject humor into the workplace, and oh my gosh were there some great laughs! Cal was a cheerful & pleasant partner who made coming to work fun. I was saddened to learn of his passing, and my thoughts are with his extended family at this tough time.

I am saddened to hear of Calvin's passing. We may not have seen each other for many years but I will always remember visiting from BC and spending time at the family home in Medicine Hat and later at his home in Calgary. I will always remember him as my handsome cousin who I loved to brag about . I even carried a picture of him in his uniform with me to show all my friends. I still have this picture. Rest in Peace dear Cousin.

I will always remember the nights we played Risk, and the battles we had, especially when Grant and Cal would get into discussions and Wanda or I would rule the world, He will be missed Rest in Peace Cal Louise Day
Ron Tarrant asked me to pass this on to Cal's family:
I am so sad to read of Cal Metcalf's passing. It might have been at the last lunch or possibly the one before when I spoke with him at the bar. I first met him when I went to E District in 1977 and he was working in E4 for George Gourdinne. I got to know him well and found him to be a good cop as well as a nice guy. During my life, not just my police service, I tried never to envy anyone, yet I did envy Cal. He came to me one day to ask if I would give him permission to wear his #1 uniform with a white shirt and bow tie to wear in Europe, more specifically in the UK. I was interested in the reason, and he said that he was going to a Garden Party at Buckingham Palace and hoped to see the Queen! I said yes of course and then asked if he had a spare ticket. After he returned I would often kid him about this incident as I had been on duty wearing my #1 uniform at the Queens Birthday Parade as well as the 1955 Royal Film Command Performance when she walked past me close enough to touch, but I had never been in the Palace or the garden. When ever we were in the "old and new Cuff", if he saw me before I saw him, I would always find a Caesar in my hand! In recent years after his first real fight with cancer I always asked how things were going, and I was pleased to hear that he felt as good as he looked. It's hard to believe that I will never see him again and perhaps if there is to be no funeral due to the virus, perhaps you could forward this to his wife with my deepest respect and condolences. Ron
I will always remember Cal's smile and his kindness. He attended many Police Veteran Lunches over the years and he will be sorely missed by not only me, but all the police veterans. Cal was very popular and well known for his considerable attributes. My sincere condolences to Cal's family.
I never ever remember seeing or talking to Cal when he was not smiling and attentive. He was someone I looked forward to seeing whenever our paths crossed. Quality police officer and more important a quality person. Another we will miss a lot. RIP my friend. You will be missed more than you know. Ted and Lorraine Davis
My sincere condolences to Cal's family for their unmeasurable loss. Although our paths haven't crossed since my retirement in 1998 I remember him as a great mate who I worked alongside and a person who would give you the shirt off his back. One whose reputation was such that absolutely no-one had a bad word to say about him. His dedication to the CPS was well known and he was a excellent investigator, God speed my friend and RIP.
