Obituary of Eugene Bruce Notacker

December 11, 1937 – Lodz, Poland

August 11, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

Bruce Notacker, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at the age of 82 years after a long and valiant battle with Myelodysplastic Syndrome.

Bruce was born in Lodz, Poland in a German community. He was forced to flee with his family at the end of WWII. The family settled in Melle, Northern Germany, where he was finally allowed to go to school and he began his bricklayer apprenticeship. In 1957, at the age of nineteen, he immigrated to Sudbury, ON, joining his uncles and cousins. Sometime later, he moved to Alberta and established himself in the bricklaying trade.

His early bricklaying skills developed into the technically specialized field of cladding high rises in granite masonry. The brilliant colors of the Calgary skyline are a testament to his capabilities as a superintendent on many important buildings such as Canterra Tower, PetroCanada, Bankers Hall, MacDougal Center, the Bank of Montreal and many more. We will always think of Bruce when we watch the sun rise on the city skyline.

When Bruce retired he spent most of his time travelling the world with his wife to Asia, United States, Mexico, Europe, and Central and South America, travelling the globe from the far north to the southern tip. When Bruce was not travelling, he could be found on the golf course joining his many friends or family members for a round of golf.

Besides his loving wife of forty five years, Gerda Notacker, Bruce is survived by his children, Mara Thorvaldson (Ian Maishment), Randy Notacker (Andrian), Lisa Notacker (Ian Greggory), and Julio Gomez (Amy Jones); grandchildren, Ryan, Frieda, Marshall, Kurtis and Carmen; as well as many nieces and nephews in Canada, Mexico and Germany.

Bruce/Dad, we will always love and remember you.
