Condolences
Graham and Linda McFarlane
As a former client and friend of David, I was very saddened by his passing. As a family we owe him a lot as he was the managing partner of Barr, Shelley, Stuart and mentor for our daughter, Suzy, as she articled to become a CA. For me, I appreciated his professionalism, advice and sense of humour over the years with the occasional social interaction as well.
Our best to Kathy and the rest of the family.
Now, about those left handed clubs... just kidding- I gave up the game years ago!
I am so saddened to hear of Dave’s passing. To me, Dave was one of my fave bosses ever. He hired me at BSS, I still remember the interview in 1991...and I worked for the firm for 5 years. I met some of my best friends there and my first husband! What good times we all had. Dave was kind, fair, honest, funny and full of life. I can still hear his unique voice and laugh even though I haven’t heard it for several years. My sincere condolences to you Kathy. And to Dave’s extended family...my thoughts are with you. Dave will be forever missed.
My deepest sympathies go out to Kathy, Matthew, Rebecca and family. I was also a BSS alumni from the early 90’s era. It was probably my favourite job of all time, due in large part to Dave’s guidance, and terrific dry sense of humour! I was extremely honoured when Dave and Kathy hosted my going away party when I moved to Winnipeg. Dave will be greatly missed by many, the sign of a life well lived! I pray that In time, you will be comforted by a lifetime of memories. God’s blessings to you all.
Many memories being shared about Dave as a boy by his friends and colleagues at Lower Canada College in Montreal.
We are so sorry for your loss. Julian Wise

Our deepest condolences to you and all of your family. Wishing you strength as you progress through the loss of your husband, Rebecca and Matt's dad, Harper and Lochlan's Grandad.
Joyce and Brent Cooper and family
Kathy and family, may you remember well and long while healing quickly. To all who knew Dave he will be missed, he was a joy, learn to smile a confident smile like his. Shalom
Kathy and family, May your memories of the good times help you through this hard time. Our deepest sympathy to the Stuart family. Greg and Patti Clement
My deepest condolences to Dave’s family. I, as a couple of BSS employees posted here :), also thought Dave was great boss and enjoyed the many years working with him at BSS. Dave was a kind, genuine and caring person. I will always remember when Dave surprisingly (thanks to Sylvia!) showed up at a milestone birthday celebration when I visited Calgary after I moved to work in Chicago. I enjoyed reading Dave’s message and how the Stuart family has expanded and how proud he was of his extended family. I, unfortunately, will not be able to attend Dave’s Celebration of Life (I’m now living back in Toronto) but I will be thinking of the many fond memories I have of Dave and the years at BSS. All the best to you, Kathy, and your family.
Dave,
You left us too soon. You had a lot more to do. Your family of course, but the rest of us whose paths you crossed in politics, the accounting profession, and elsewhere. The joie de vivre you brought to us will be sorely missed. Take care my friend.
Doug Rae
Dear Kathy and family,
Mark and I are deeply saddened by Dave’s passing and would like to express our sincere condolences to the whole family. We both will always have only the fondest memories of his infectious smile, and the kindest heart. We will always cherish the time we spent together and will never forget his unique and fun spirit. We are so thankful for having been a part of his life.
Sending hugs and all our love,
Zuzana and Mark Barrett
Dear David, Just loved the obituary! I mostly passed the time of day with you, when walking the dogs. But however short, you always said something to make me laugh. I wished we had talked more. To dear Kathy and Quinn, I give you my deepest sympathy. I hope we have many more chats with the dogs at our side.
Kathy I am so sorry to learn of David’s passing! I remember how much he did for CWES as treasurer and how much he helped me in a difficult time! He was so smart, funny and kind and what an awesome couple you made! It’s been a while - we lost touch - but I remember you both so clearly!
In the meantime a big hug to you
Lindsay
Dave,
It was a great pleasure to work with you for several years while we both served as volunteers for the Calgary Women's Emergency Shelter. I loved your terrific sense of humor and dedication to the cause and you were always the first to volunteer for committees and fund raising activities.
My deepest condolences to all your family . You will be greatly missed by all who knew you.

My deepest sympathies to all of Dave's family during this most difficult time. As my accountant for over 25 years Dave always provided me with practical, relevant advice and guidance. But more importantly he did so in such a friendly, collegial manner that demonstrated his personality and care for his clients. Had so many enjoyable meetings and lunches that were more personal than professional. Rest in peace Dave.

Dear Kathy, Matt & Rebecca,
We always enjoyed David's sense of humour and his gentle spirit. He will be very much missed in the neighbourhood. He is gone but never forgotten, and his love of family is an unending gift. Courageously, he did it his way, and he has been an inspiration to us all. We extend our heartfelt sympathies during this time.

Dear David, I have fond memories of working together in the glory days at BSS. On my (very) short list of best bosses of all time, you ranked at the top. The world has lost a good person. We shared the same birthday, if not birth year. In that aspect and so many more, you were superior. I will toast you when I raise a glass on February 8. Rest in peace my friend. My heartfelt sympathy to Kathy, Matthew and Rebecca

Dave,
You were the most amazing boss a young accountant just learning the ropes could ever have. I cherish the memories of the great team that was BSS. Thank you for teaching me so much and for being such a patient teacher, even through the most hectic and demanding situations and always with a sense of humor.
Kathy and Family I will be thinking of you, so sorry for your loss.
Pat Walker
Dear Kathy and family,
We adored Dave for his sparkling, dry humour and the permanent twinkle in his eye. With true tenacity and characteristic grit, his battle with cancer was epic. We have loved having you and Dave as neighbours and friends. Please accept our sincere sympathies on the loss of your dear husband, father and grandfather. Bill and Sue Bradley
