Obituary of Eileen Sylvia JONES

August 19, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

Eileen Jones, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Wednesday, August 19, 2020 at the age of 75 years.

Eileen was born in Magrath, AB, to Warren and Nonavee Jones and grew up in Raymond.  She loved gardening, cycling, camping, hiking and canoeing.  She joined the Horticultural Society and became a Master Gardener. She enjoyed the women’s book club: reading and discussing literary works and authors. Throughout the years, she was able to provide help to many nieces and nephews financially, physically, emotionally and through her skills as a counselor.

Eileen received a Bachelor of Education Degree from the University of Calgary and a Master of Arts Degree in Counseling and Guidance from Brigham Young University.  For most of her career she worked as a counselor, consultant and resource teacher for the Calgary Board of Education.

She served faithfully in many organizations in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints including a mission to the Southern States 1970-1972, a mission at the Employment Center and a temple worker in the Calgary Temple.  She belonged to a Family Home Evening Group for 35 years that met weekly. The fellowship and gospel learning were very rewarding to her.

She was loved for her no nonsense approach to life.  Eileen was a lifelong learner and respected for her insights and wisdom.

Eileen is survived by her siblings, Heber (Ann) Jones, Wayne (Marian) Jones and Jennifer (Craig) Meldrum; and twenty-six nieces and nephews. Eileen was predeceased by her parents, Warren and Nonavee Jones; and her sister Marcia Tagg.

Funeral Services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Foothills Stake Centre (30 Everstone Blvd, Calgary, AB) on Tuesday,  August 25, 2020 at10:30 a.m. Graveside Service will be held  on Tuesday, at 4:30 p.m. in the Temple Hill Cemetery, Raymond, AB.
