August 14, 1950 – Letschin, Germany

August 21, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with heavy hearts, we announce the sudden passing of our loving father, Garry Schwarz of Calgary, AB, on Friday, August 21, 2020 at the age of 70.

Garry was born in Letschin, Germany, on August 14, 1950. He immigrated with his parents and siblings to Canada in 1951.

Garry graduated from Crescent Heights High School and received his Diploma of Applied Arts from SAIT in 1975. His award winning artistic abilities led him into a lengthy career at SAIT in Calgary, where he worked for over twenty-five years. He will be fondly missed by his many friends and colleagues from SAIT and the University of Calgary.

Garry was an avid sportsman. He had a strong passion for many sports including tennis, squash, darts, curling and golf. He enjoyed a cold beer and pizza after a double round of golf with his friends at one of his many favourite sports pubs, where he could sit back and watch hockey or football with the guys.

Garry loved to travel, whether it be a golfing trip to BC with his group of long time pals, or a relaxing Mexico trip to put his feet up and enjoy life! He was always planning his next trip!

Garry was a scholar and a gentleman who always put others before himself. He was a generous, thoughtful, kind man. He will be forever cherished by his son Jason and daughter Jessie. He will be sadly missed by his many grandchildren, his long time pals and golf buddies, and his best friend Jennifer Rattigan as well as her two daughters, Sarah and Katy.

Garry is survived by his son Jason, daughter-in-law Serena, and grandson Adam, daughter Jessica, son-in-law Chris, and grandchildren, Adriyana, Bella, Frankie and Lily. Garry is also survived by his brother Ken, sister Marlene, and mother Ruth.

Garry had many friends that love him and will miss his genuine warm friendship.
