Obituary of Michael Harvey LOCKWOOD

May 1, 1957 – Calgary, Alberta
August 28, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Michael Harvey Lockwood on Aug 28, 2020 at the age of 63. He accepted the diagnosis of brain cancer with grace and took every step along his journey with courage.

Michael was born in Calgary, AB on May 1, 1957.  He attended Henry Wise Wood High School, graduating in 1975, and then went on to pursue his Law degree at the University of Saskatoon. Michael’s law career spanned forty years, beginning with Bennett Jones, Carscallen Lockwood, and finally setting up his own practice, Lockwood Law.

A devoted and loving father, Mike shared many special times with Lindsay; summers at Pine Lake, driving her to and from dance classes and competitions, riding their horses together and countless other adventures.

Michael loved animals. Many dogs shared his home over the years and his horse Django, held a special place in his heart. A lifelong dream was fulfilled when he purchased Seven Stars Ranch near Lacombe, AB.  He also had a passion for car-racing and dirt-biking. He had many memorable adventures with his cousin Marc, biking on Vancouver Island.

Mike served on the Hospitality-Downtown Attractions Committee with the Calgary Stampede for ten years, and was the ultimate parent volunteer with the Stampede Showriders when Lindsay was on the team.  He burst with pride when she was crowned the 2018 Calgary Stampede Queen.

‘Mugger’, as he was affectionately called by his high school chums, and ‘Uncle Muck’ to little Jax, affected all that knew and loved him, with his wry humour and his infectious laugh.

He will be greatly missed and forever in our hearts.

Michael is survived by his only daughter Lindsay, the bright light of his life, his brother Stephen Lockwood (Anne), nieces, Kenna (Sean Erwin) and Julie (Hartland Punt); grand-nephew Jaxon Erwin and grand-niece Charlee-Anne Erwin.

He was predeceased by his parents, Bette and Chuck Lockwood; his nephew Fraser Lockwood, and Lindsay’s beloved mom, Lois Lockwood.

A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Michael’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Calgary Humane Society, www.calgaryhumane.ca.

The family wishes to thank the doctors and staff at the Tom Baker Cancer Center and the Southwood Hospice for the compassion and care they afforded Mike.
