Obituary of Ronald (Ron) James LEOPOLD

September 7, 1936 – Calgary, Alberta
September 4, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sadness that we announce Ron “Squeak” Leopold of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 4, 2020 at the age of 83 years.

Ron was the son of Roy and Esther and proud brother to Betty (Arne), Sheila and Jerry. Ron often said his religion was hockey, and he excelled at it. He began his pro career a fan favourite and goal scorer for the Calgary Stampeders hockey team from 1957-63.  Ron then played in the Chicago Blackhawks organization for a few seasons before moving back to Alberta to the lead the Drumheller Miners to the Allan Cup Championship in 1966.  He hung up the skates in the early 1970’s to work in the game he loved and later became an industry leader in the art of ice making for the Calgary Flames and the NHL.

Ron will be forever cherished by his loving partner, Diane, his children, Lisa (Terry), Doug and Lori; his children’s mother Sharon, step children, Curtis (Michele), Chuck (Liane) and Amy (Jay); as well as his many grandchildren.

We plan to celebrate Ron in 2021 when the time is right. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Ron’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.

The family would like to thank Dr. R. (Dan) Dandugula and the devoted staff at the Southwood Hospice for their superb care for Ron in his last days.

In living memory of Ron Leopold, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area.
