Obituary of Bernice Phyllis SANDRE

April 23, 1931 - Portage La Prairie, Manitoba
August 25, 2020 – Kelowna, British Columbia

Our loving and giving mother passed away Tuesday, August 25, 2020 at the age of 89 years. She was a loving wife of the late Ulo “Sandy” Sandre and wonderful mother to her three sons, Larry, Roger and David.

Our mother loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, always giving to them out of the abundance in her heart. She will always be remembered for her generosity and volunteering at the Calgary Food Bank for twenty years. Bernice died peacefully at the age of 89, living a full life. She beat lung cancer at the age of 80, having it return again at age 89. Right up to her last days she was always concerned about us more than herself. Bernice was born on April 23, 1931 in Portage la Prairie, MB and attended Portage Collegiate Institute. Eventually marrying Sandy Sandre on April 16, 1955 and moving with the Canadian Military to Germany where Larry was born. Life took her and the family across Canada from Ottawa (where Roger and David were born) to Rivers and Portage la Prairie, MB, then to Kamloops, BC, Moose Jaw and Regina, SK and eventually back to Ottawa. Upon our father’s retirement they relocated to Calgary, AB in 1995. Bernice loved her family and thirty great years at Delta Beach, MB where she met with her family every year, enjoying the laughter, sun on the beach and games.

Bernice will be lovingly remembered by her children and their spouses, Larry (Colleen), Roger (Beverley) and David; her five grandchildren, Andrew (Brittany), Michelle (Alex), Andrea (Michael), Ashley (Phil) and Brittany; and three great-grandchildren, Xander, Isla and Bode. She is also survived by her sister Connie (Wally Grant) and their children, Carolyn, Bruce, Sandra, Ken, Kathy and Tom. Auntie B will be missed by many nieces, nephews and extended family. Bernice was predeceased by her parents, Felix Kozakiewich in 1981 and Michalina (Grymoloski) in 1998, both emigrating from Poland in 1913 and 1907 respectively. Bernice was also predeceased by her sister, Yvonne Kozakiewich in 1994 and brother Stanley Kozakiewich in 2005.
