Condolences
Sad to hear of Jim's passing. Jim and I had many discussions about music and his great collection. I wanted to make a documentary film about him and his vast knowledge. Sadly I could never quite convince him of the benefit of it. This was shortly before he moved. He was a most modest person. I will always remember our visits, long talks and having a Tim's with him. Great person, great memories. Thanks Jimmy.

We send our condolences to the family for the loss of our dear friend & neighbour Jim.
He was well known & liked in our Fairview community & an institution in the local music scene.
His knowlege will be missed by many who relied on him as a resource of albums, books & songs.
We had a great time over 30 years as his next door neighbour & shared in many "a good yarn"...
Jim was a spiritual man & appreciated God's word the Bible & we often enjoyed a study of the scriptures.
He appreciated creation & all the wonders of nature as evidence of a loving God.
We look forward to the promise at Acts 24:15 of a resurrection in the new Kingdom.
Thanks to Garfield & family for the love they showed for Jim in caring for him in his final years.

Reading Jim's obituary in the Halifax paper both saddens us for your loss and at the same time brings back so many happy memories. Joyce was our "older" cousin who looked out for us from day one and when she and Jim met , as they say , the rest was history.
Jim kept the Blumsum "young ones " under his caring eyes and will always be remembered as a gentle person we were blessed to know.

Thinking of the Dean family since hearing of your Uncle Jim’s passing. We have good memories of visits with him when he was with David & Maxine. Sending our love & sympathy, Kevin & Cathy Toole
Today I read Jim's obituary(Halifax Herald), at first not picking up on it until prompted by my wife, Gloria who remembered him right away. Our memory of Jim goes back to maybe the 1970's when they rented from my Uncle John on Dutch Village Road, During that time Jim and Joyce began to attend Bayer's Road Baptist church becoming involved in a couple of the social gatherings as well. I always enjoyed talking with Jim with his matter of fact comments. During that time they moved to Central Avenue in Fairview. I had no idea he had moved West, Glad to make the reconnection but maybe not for the reason we now have. Our condolences to the surviving family and friends.

I had the privilege to work with Jim at Sam the Record Man in Halifax in the early 90s. It was my first job in a new city and Jim showed me such kindness, he really cared. He would even bring extra cheese and saltines just in case i didn't have a lunch. Over time I realized he was like that to everyone, even to strangers and every customer LOVED him. We all tried to be as good as him. Jim also taught me so much about country music. Grateful for the time I spent with him and my sincerest condolences to his family.

"Jimmy" Dean was a force of nature in the music world of the Maritimes. His unwavering support of musicians was legendary. I remember him calling to say he needed more of my records at Sams. Always looking out for the artists! And I remember him at some of the Hank Snow reunion events. How wonderful that he spent his last days with loved ones. Please accept our condolences.
