Condolences
Dear Sharon and family.
I had the absolute pleasure of working with George at Westco from 1993 until he retired (I forget that date). I was, as George said, "green as grass" (although keen) and he was such a generous mentor and coach and friend. I learned a tremendous amount from him, including as a role model for how to work with people. Probably my most lasting memories of that work time together was hearing George's laugh and us bursting out in hilarity together. He had a refreshing way of looking at some of the challenges or situations we faced. Again, that has helped demonstrate a way forward for me.
We also shared a love for the outdoors - skiing and cycling. Through George, I joined the Norsemen Ski Club and worked hard to keep up with what George called "the old guys". Fantastic experiences and wonderful memories.
Time goes by and I haven't seen George in some time. Rather than lament that, I keep in my memory and heart what a great guy and positive influence he was, and will remain, for me.
Warmest thoughts and regards,
Peter May
We live down the block from George and Sharon, and as neighbours we shared several front yard chats over the years. George was a wealth of knowledge whether we spoke about gardening or vehicles, and he usually had a humorous story about their adventures to share. His spirited outlook was inspiring during his declining health. Our condolences to Sharon and family.

Sharon and family,
We were so sorry to hear about George, my favourite neighbour. A wonderful and friendly man, he was always ready to talk and share stories in the back alley or on his walks around the block and area. I will miss him so much. George had a great sense of humour and was so positive in spite of his medical issues. He was always ready to help others. Please call on us Sharon if you need some help and we can repay the favours. We offer our condolences.

Dear Sharon and family
Please accept our condolences on the passing of George. I had the honour to know George for over 25 years. He was an inspiration to me over all those years, a go to person for sound advice mixed with a great sense of humour and consideration for all.
He will be missed but not forgotten

We have fond memories of cycling and back country skiing trips with George. Most of all we enjoyed his stories of mishaps from which he always emerged with a laugh or smile while emphasizing the positive side to any such misadventures. And he never changed, not even to the time of his passing. May the glass always remain half full. Our condolences to Sharon and Shelly, also Karen, Scott and those six grandchildren who will miss but not forget their grandfather.
We are saddened by George's passing. He was a unique person, a fraternity brother and friend for more than 60 years. He will be missed.

George was the epitome of a strong leader and a good friend. He led with strength and gentleness. I will always be thankful for having known him. May choirs of angels sing him to his rest and may they lead him to a place of light and peace. Rest in peace George. A life well lived.

George was one of the finest gentlemen we have ever met. They don't make them any better.

George was best man at our wedding in 1994 and one of the very best friends I ever had. Karen and I will always treasure memories of backcountry ski and cycle trips with George. And, we'll always remember the stories he told of both his adventures and his little miss-adventures (we all know that he was a storyteller extraordinaire). Like heli-skiiing with Ruedi Beglinger, dragging me down Teepee Town run at Sunshine on my tele-skis, sharing some nice and some shabby backcountry ski lodges, on our bikes passing cars on steep downhill mountain roads. But, also, with the same characteristic laugh, we were told other stories, like tearing ligaments while testing the break-out setting of his alpine ski bindings, inventing "crawl mode" (climbing the slope on his knees) when tiring of changing between walk and ski modes on his AT ski bindings, fracturing a bone from slipping on the ice on his back steps, dropping a 23L a red-wine carboy on a carpeted floor, almost being backed over at a border crossing, trying to leap a curb on his bike with the front wheel not yet fastened, having to borrow a bike to do the Golden Triangle because of the destruction of his own while backing out of the lane. Who talks about these things? George does because he was open and fun loving. This openness made him a friend to everyone. I'll miss him greatly and Karen and I will continue to pray for all of the Young family.
Grandpa George always made us laugh and smile. Such a genuine soul with such a big heart. Grandpa George was not only an amazing Grandpa but a strong father figure for his grandsons. They strive to be just like him. So real, so caring and thoughtful. A true role model. We miss him so much already, he is in our hearts forever. ❤️
I truly had the best grandpa anyone could have asked for and I was so lucky to have him in my life, he taught me so many things I will never forget. He truly helped shape all of his grandkids into the amazing individuals we all are today. I will hold all of our memories close to my heart forever. He was so loved by so many, I hope he knew how special he was to all that were in his life.
Heaven gained a new Angel! I was fortunate to spend some time and a few special family dinners and saw the love he had for his children and family and of course his wife, Sharon. George was kind and warming and always quick with a joke and he carried that to the end. He was eager to take on challenges people thought he was to old to carry out but George blew those doubters away.
He loved the outdoors and encouraged his children and grandchildren in many activities. George you will be fondly remembered. Rest in peace (if you can stay still)
Dad you will be thought of every day. Your smile, laughter, calm strength, fantastic grilled cheese sandwiches and egg nogs will always make me smile. Love you pops. ❤️Bowser
