Obituary of Thomas David REID

January 7, 1936 – Doris, Alberta
October 12, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with profound sadness that the family of Thomas D. Reid announces the peaceful passing of their beloved husband, father and grandfather on Monday, October 12, 2020 at the age of 84 years.

Tom was born in Doris, AB, and joined the military in the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry on March 4, 1954 and retired October 13, 1979. His military career took him to Germany, Fort Churchill, Manitoba (where he met his beautiful wife Eleanor), Edmonton, and Calgary, three peace keeping missions to Cyprus, and Canadian Forces Base Gagetown, New Brunswick. After retiring from the military, Tom worked with various engineering firms and completed his career with the law firm Macleod Dixon in 1992.
His retirement consisted of golfing, spending time with his family, and camping across Canada and in Arizona. His favourite spot was Fairmont Hot Springs, just as long as he had his wife and his fifth wheel with him. Tom and Eleanor were also regularly joined on their camping adventures by their six grandchildren. Tom spent countless hours volunteering his time to many community organizations that he supported, including The Military Museums in Calgary, the PPCLI Association, youth bowling and junior hockey leagues, charities in support of multiple sclerosis, and his local church.

Tom is survived by his wife of sixty-one years Eleanor, his children, David (Marg) Reid, Genevieve (Stephen) Wright, Karen (Mike) Bradley and Teresa Holwell; his son-in-law Paul Holwell, his six grandchildren, Lee-Anne (Charlie), Jason (Joy), Thomas (Julia), Lain (Ryan), Nicole (Brandon) and Curtis, and two great-grandchildren Hadley and Sawyer. He was predeceased by his sisters Betty and Shirley.

My darling husband, dad, grandpa (HoHo) and great grandpa, you will be missed dearly by us all and we will cherish all of the memories we have had.

A Private Funeral Mass will be held. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Thomas’ obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com. In lieu of flowers, the family asked that donations be made to the Chinook Hospice at 1261 Glenmore Trail SW in Calgary.
