Obituary of Dr. Alexander (Alex) Kam Po CHAN M.D.,F.R.C.P(C)

July 23, 1950 – Hong Kong, China
October 16, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with profound sadness that the family of Dr. Alexander Kam Po Chan, of Calgary, announce his peaceful passing on Friday, October 16, 2020, at the age of 70. He was born on July 23, 1950, in Hong Kong, China.

Dr. Chan dedicated his life to his work in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the Tom Baker Cancer Center from 1983 - 2009. He was known for the exemplary care he had for his patients and his passion for research into innovative treatment methods. He was well respected by his colleagues and patients.

He was an active member of the Westside Calgary Chinese Alliance Church and was a cherished teacher known for his abundance of wisdom and insights into the scriptures. To his family, he was a devoted husband and loving father. Even though his schedule was full, he always made family a priority, never missing a Sunday family dinner and worship.

Last but not least, he was an artist, renowned for his beautiful calligraphy and paintings. He loved classical music, practising the flute extensively and even in his later years he had ambitions to be a budding violinist.

Dr. Chan will be lovingly remembered by his wife of thirty-nine years, Maggie Siu Wai, his children, Ruth, Tiffany, Timothy, and Trina (Victor Tse); his brother Allen (Rebecca Chan), his sisters, Pui Chun Wong, and Irene (Francis Ho); and many family members and friends. He was predeceased by his late wife Kathleen Shen, and his parents, Jun Chan and Yuk Wan Kwan.
