Obituary of Peter Anthony Francis PARKIN

June 30, 1953 – Toronto, Ontario
November 2, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

Peter Parkin, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Monday, November 2, 2020 at the age of 67 years following a brief battle with esophageal cancer.

Pete was born in Toronto, ON.  He attended Leaside High School followed by attending Ryerson University. Pete began his career as an Inspector Trainee at Norwich Union Insurance Co. in Toronto in 1973. He also worked for Crum & Forster Insurance, and then moved west to Calgary to join the Sovereign General Insurance Co. His last position was CEO of Sovereign General. He retired at the early age of 53, and in his retirement years he held a seat on several Boards (Sovereign General Insurance Co. and The Alberta New Home Warranty Program). In his retirement years he enjoyed writing suspense and thriller novels and swimming at the local pool in Okotoks. His greatest joy however, was to spend time with his much beloved family. He was proud of his sons and grandsons and always praised their achievements. Pete had a passion for writing, and always took great interest in learning new things. He travelled to many places, as he particularly loved hot, tropical destinations to escape the cold Canadian winters. His favorite locale was Costa Rica. Pete will be most remembered for his sense of humor, quick wit, and sharp mind and for making every gathering a fun time!

Pete is survived by two sons, Steven Parkin (ex-wife Amanda Millington), and Jason Parkin (fiancé Paige Henry) all of Calgary, AB; two grandchildren, Willem and Michael Parkin. He is also survived by his three brothers, Paul Parkin of Ottawa, ON, Dave Parkin of Toronto, ON and Jim Parkin of Toronto, ON; and his ex-wife of thirty-seven years, Connie Parkin (nee Blocher). Pete was predeceased by his mother Doreen Parkin (nee Tuck), father Paul Parkin and brother John-Michael Parkin.
