Obituary of Patrick Kenneth McLELLAN

April 18, 1942 – Winnipeg, Manitoba
October 24, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

Patrick McLellan, beloved husband of Maureen McLellan (nee Kelly) of Calgary, AB, passed away on Saturday, October 24, 2020 at the age of 78 years.

Patrick was born in Winnipeg, MB on April 18, 1942 and when Pat was a teenager he joined the Houles (his mom’s family) in Alberta to live and work on their family farm near Fort Saskatchewan.  While at the farm he also attended Horse Hills High School where he earned his grade 12 diploma.  After graduation he returned to Winnipeg where he met Maureen Kelly and they were wed in 1964.  Their daughter Liana was born in June that year.

In June 1968, they moved to Kitimat, BC, for adventure and Pat’s new job as a systems analyst at Alcan.  In October 1968, daughter Jennifer was born.

In November 1976, the family moved to Fort McMurray, AB where Pat continued his career with Syncrude as a systems analyst and eventually became a project manager.  Pat retired in September 2000 and moved to Calgary, AB to be near Liana and Jennifer and their young families.

Throughout his life, Pat always loved to be outdoors.  Growing up in Winnipeg, he loved playing outdoor hockey and also enjoyed duck hunting with his brothers. While living in Kitimat he did a lot of fishing, especially for salmon.  He also developed what became a lifelong love for golf and in winters led the family on many cross-country skiing expeditions. While living in Fort McMurray, he continued golfing, camping, skiing and during those long cold winters, the family played racquetball together.

Pat loved animals and over the years the family had a couple of cats, Fluffy and Ching and one beloved dog, Misty.  Pat loved being with his family and really enjoyed time with his grandchildren.  He rarely missed any of his grandson’s hockey games and could also be found in the stands of baseball, soccer, lacrosse games and dance recitals.  Pat and Maureen loved going for family dog walks and enjoyed having the grand-dogs, Jetta and Layla, for visits and sleep overs.

Pat loved to travel and one of his most memorable trips was a trip to China that they took with his sister Bea and her husband Bob.

Pat is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Liana McLellan and Mike Nerbas and their sons, Eric (and fiancé Lindsay) and Scott; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Tim Biggs, and their daughter Kaitlyn (and partner Prabh) and son Matt.  All live in Calgary, AB.
