So many evenings I remember watching my grandparents play cards with the Cosentino’s. As a young child the Cosentino’s palpable energy and Italian accents fascinated me. I loved them instantly and wholeheartedly. Many evenings we shared our dinner table, and fond memories with them.
Some of my favorite memories of Egi are of nights when my mom and aunt were out, and my grandparents were babysitting me. These nights often consisted of my grandparents and the Cosentino’s playing cards. When my bed time arrived I would beg my grandparents to let me sleep on the couch in the living room instead of going upstairs to the bedrooms. For you see, on the couch I could “pretend” to be sleeping while secretly listening to the adults playing cards in the kitchen. As I lay on the couch I remember hearing “the boys team” (my Papa and Egi) and “the girls team” (my Baba and Luisa) poking fun at each other and exchanging remarks about how one another were cheating. When the competition started to heat up and Egi would lay down some high scoring cards, Luisa would scoff and say something sharp in Italian. They were such a fun couple and I can’t remember a time when they weren’t making me smile and laugh.
I am so grateful that the Cosintino’s and my Grandparents found each other because my family would not be as complete without them in our lives.
Egi, Egidio I love you lots and I know you and I will meet again one day ❤️
