Obituary of Norman Edward RANSOME

June 26, 1931 – Portsmouth, England
December 13, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

Norman Ransome of Calgary, AB, passed away on Sunday, December 13, 2020 at the age of 89 years.

Norman was born in Portsmouth, England on June 26, 1931. He immigrated to Toronto, ON in 1961. Norman graduated from Oxford University (Exeter College) with a BA, MBA, dPhil (Phd) in Chemistry. He worked as the Manager of Regulatory Affairs for Horner Pharmaceuticals, Montreal, QC from 1967 to 1992. Norman was well travelled, he went every year to the family home in Portsmouth, England, on an Alaskan cruise, to the Panama Canal, Venice (Gritti Palace) and to Finland. Norman enjoyed reading, listening to his music collection, shopping, Sudoku, crossword puzzles, watching TV, taking walks, being with his family and going to restaurants he loved. He loved nothing more than good food and a good game of chess.

"A chacun son choisi"...he always loved to say it wrong just to get me to correct him!!!

He will be most remembered for his huge and generous heart, his caring and love of his family, his laugh, his love of small little things and cute cuddly soft things, and his love of learning and always "keep the mind moving". He was a beautiful soul. He loved Christmas and always sent out handwritten cards on birthdays, Easter and Christmas. His greatest achievement in life was his children and grandchildren.

Norman is survived by his two daughters and son-in-law, Lisa Ransome-Williams and Ross Williams and Margaret Ransome all of Calgary, AB; and four grandchildren, Liam Ransome, Ayden Ransome, Harlow Williams and Lorelei Williams.

He was predeceased by his wife Hilda May Murphy Ransome, parents, William and Mary Ransome of Portsmouth, England; and his brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Sonia Ransome of Mississauga, ON.
