Obituary of Shirley Aileen MCLACHLAN nee Schmidt

June 7, 1927 – Millet, Alberta
December 14, 2020– Calgary, Alberta

Shirley McLachlan, of Calgary, Alberta, passed away on, Monday, December 14, 2020 at the age of 93 years.

Shirley was born in Millet, AB in 1927. She grew up in the Pigeon Lake area of Alberta with her brother Dallas and sister Iona. She met Andrew McLachlan while he was working near Pigeon Lake and she married the love of her life in 1947. Andrew, who passed away in June 1989, worked in the seismic industry and as a result they lived in many varied and interesting places in Alberta and Saskatchewan. They eventually moved to Calgary where they raised four boys: James (deceased) (Melanie/Jenny), Douglas (Leigh), Brian (Sandra) and Donald (Cynthia). Shirley is also survived by her nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. 

 She was a member of Grace Lutheran church for many years and was well known in the congregation. Shirley loved to bake and was very generous with her baking especially around Christmas. Shirley also liked to curl and was a regular, week in and week out. She was an avid gardener and she also liked to knitting. She knitted many scarves, toques, mitts and even blankets for anyone that needed them or wanted them.  

There will be a small private family ceremony on Tuesday, December 22, 2020, which will be recorded and will be available for viewing on McInnis and Holloway’s website after the service on Wednesday after 1:00 p.m. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Shirley’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.
