Obituary of Valerie Eleanor STEPHENSON

July 10, 1946 – Georgetown, Guyana
December 27, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

Valerie Eleanor Stephenson, 74, of Calgary, Alberta, passed away on Sunday, December 27th, 2020. 

Valerie was born in Georgetown, Guyana to Winston and Marie Stephenson on July 10th, 1946. She grew up in Mackenzie, Guyana and immigrated to Montreal, QC to further her post-secondary education. She has earned multiple bachelor's degrees along with a master's degree from McGill and Concordia in Montreal. Valerie had been a teacher for over thirty years where she had touched many lives. She was involved with church activities and was a part of the Guyana Cultural Association of Montreal. Once she retired, she moved to Calgary to be closer to her daughter and granddaughter.

Valerie is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Shaunna and Andrew Barber of Calgary, AB; sister Wilmot Stephenson of Brooklyn, New York; brother Rudy Stephenson of Inglewood, California; nieces, Kim Warren of Levittown, Pennsylvania, Roxanne Stephenson of Inglewood, California and Camille and Denise Stephenson of Ohio; grand-niece and grand-nephew Kayla Johnson and Malakhi Warren of Levittown, Pennsylvania; and her precious granddaughter Gabrielle Barber of Calgary, AB. In addition, she is also survived by various cousins and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents Winston and Marie Stephenson, brother Denys Stephenson, and nephew Duane Stephenson.

A private memorial service will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB) on Friday, January 1, 2021 at 2:00 pm MST.  A link will be made available for the service to be viewed online for family and friends.
