Obituary of Mildred EDWARDS

January 22, 1931– Elgin, Manitoba
December 23, 2020 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with both sadness and peace we announce the passing of Bernice Edwards at Southwood Hospice on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at the age of 89.

Mom was predeceased by Dad (Ernie), her husband of fifty-nine years, in 2015. Together they had Paul (Karen), Carl, and Joan (Murray) and at Mom’s passing she loved nine grand-children and four great-grandchildren.

Bernice, who was also referred to as “Tim” by some, is survived by siblings, Ken Moffat and Audrey Dennis, and was predeceased by brother Ron Moffat, whose wife Mary (Duncan) remained her closest friend.

Mom grew up on the family farm and became keenly aware of her natural surroundings and marvelled at what she saw.  She was quick to point out with awe, the colour of the clouds, the frenzy of the birds at the feeder or the sound of the wind in the trees.  Mom often spoke of the night her and Dad watched the lightening storm over Lake Superior out the back door of their camper van.

St. Andrew’s United Church in Calgary provided Mom with strength and she was an active member of the congregation beginning in 1966.  She contributed to building the church by helping to start the Sunday school and taking on several committee assignments.  Mom also got to witness all three of her children get married in the St. Andrew’s sanctuary.

Mom had a life filled with many health challenges, but time and time again she found a way to survive.  We learned long ago that Mom’s faith, love of life combined with the commitment and compassion of so many Health Care workers kept her with us – thank you.

A Calgary service for Mom has not been planned at this time due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  When the time is right, Mom’s cremated remains will be interred with Dad’s at a graveside service at the Roseville Cemetery near Brandon.  Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Bernice’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made directly to Southwood Care Centre (Hospice), 211 Heritage Dr. SE, Calgary, T2H 1M9, Telephone: (403) 252-1194, or a charity of your choice.

We hope that you will take a few moments to think of Mom.  Maybe you will see a cloud, see a bird or hear the wind and think of a time you shared with her.  Also, think upon Mom’s constant refrain to us; “Do it While You Can”.

In living memory of Bernice Edward’s, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB T2X 3J3, Telephone: 403-256-9575.
