Obituary of John Andrew McGINNIS

September 29, 1940 – Barrie, Ontario    
January 2, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

John Andrew McGinnis of Calgary, AB, passed away on Saturday, January 2, 2021. 

John was born in Barrie, ON on September 29, 1940 to Andrew and Ada McGinnis of Elmvale, ON. John was the loving husband to Marjorie McGinnis (nee Jackson) for fifty years. He became the adopted father to Adrienne and Matthew. John attended the University of Toronto, the London School of Economics and finished his schooling with a Master’s from Harvard. 

John’s oil career found the family living in various locations around the world; Toronto, Calgary, New York and Saudi Arabia. John and Marjorie moved back to AB in 2005 for the remaining years of his life in order to be close to his family, particularly his grandchildren.  
John very much enjoyed downhill skiing, hiking, playing golf and entertaining. John did various volunteer work, and religiously donated to Canadian Blood Services. He was a very intelligent man with a great sense of humor, often making his friends and family laugh at his “punny jokes”.

Besides his loving wife Marjorie, he is survived by his daughter-in- law Tanya, his three grandchildren, Connor (24), Rowyn (12) and Isibeal (12); as well as many friends.

John was predeceased by his son Matthew (1965-2014), his daughter Adrienne (1960-1990) and his parents.
