Obituary of Frederick MCKAY

September 6, 1960 – Winnipegosis, Manitoba

January 14, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

Frederick McKay, beloved husband of Gina Lucille McKay (nee Chartrand), of Calgary, Alberta passed away on Thursday, January 14, 2021 at the age of 60 years.

Fred was born in Winnipegosis, Manitoba on September 6, 1960. Fred was raised on Pine Creek First Nation until 1981. He moved to Thompson, Manitoba in 1981 and worked at INCO; until 1984 when he relocated to Brandon, Manitoba to attend college. He moved back to Pine Creek in 1985 and eventually set up his own Electrical Company named McKay Electric.  He also served as a Band Councillor for Pine Creek First Nation. He moved to Calgary, Alberta in 1999.

Fred graduated from Assiniboine Community College for Pre-Employment Electrical in 1985 and Red River Community College as a Red Seal Electrician in 1991.

Fred married Gina Lucille Chartrand on July 25, 1981. For their 25th Anniversary they renewed their vows at Pine Creek, Manitoba.

Fred accomplished much through his life and was particularly proud of the life he provided for his loving wife and children.

Fred enjoyed driving and working on cars.  He had re-built a Camaro, Dodge Challenger, and a Firebird Trans Am and had switched his 8 cylinder Silverado Truck to a 6 cylinder.  Any free time he had was spent looking for parts or installing parts.

Fred loved going on spontaneous vacation road trips with family.  When family came to visit, he and Lucille were the most gracious hosts and drove family to wherever they wanted to go and would pick them up after. He always ensured we went to see the beautiful Rocky Mountains in Banff.   One trip to pick up ice cream with his father-in-law Henry crossed three and a half provinces and included a beautiful view of the Pacific Ocean.

He will be most remembered for his kind and caring nature.  Fred always helped anyone.  He would go above and beyond for all of us.

Fred is survived by his loving wife and soul mate Gina Lucille McKay. Fred is survived by his children: Melissa McKay (Daniel), Maria McKay, Freddie McKay, and granddaughters Samantha McKay (Ryan), Mila McKay, and Aubrey Marcy. Step-grandchildren Samantha Wallington and Kenneth Wallington all in Calgary, Alberta.
