Dad was a wonderful father. I loved him very much. When mom got covid, dad stayed by her side. His results were negative. That didn’t scare him. He knew that nobody could look after mom as well as he could. After a few days, he started to get sick but he brushed it off. “It’s nothing,” he said. Well he worked so hard for 10 days until mom was getting better and then it was just too much. His covid test came back positive and within 3 days, we had to call 911. He was such a fighter, every day he told us he would be home “Monday.” When we FaceTime’d him the last time he told mom that he would wait for her in heaven where they would play a game of golf and he hoped she would give him a kiss. His nurse, by his side when we could not be there, said Dad told her his best friend Nick was there to pick him up for a golf game..... then he went to rest with god. In life, my dad was larger than life to me. Kinda pushy sometimes but always wanting do do something fun and active. He wasn’t a sitter, he was a doer. Many of us were the recipients of his good fortune as he always shared his “wealth.” From experience and knowledge to extra electronics and recipes, he shared it all. He was a great shopper who loved to give you style tips and he never liked the way the hairdresser cut mom’s hair, so he mastered that too. I will miss my Dad forever but a friend once told me a story..... “if you were on a walk and saw a field of beautiful flowers and right in the middle of that field, you saw the most beautiful flower of all, which one would you pick? Well of course, you would pick the most beautiful one! And that is just what God has done!” Dad, you were loved and admired and I know I will see you again sometime for just one more game of golf! Forever and always.... love you!
I had the honour of being Donald’s nurse and his loving nature and sweet soul radiated on the unit . We would always ask how he was doing and with a big smile on his face he would say “ perfect” and that he was . He made a big impact on his time and he will be someone I will never forget . My thoughts and prayers go out to his wonderful family .
