Condolences
Dear Pat
I wanted to extend my condolences to you and your family along with Dianne, Janice and Doug and their families on the recent loss of your mom. I just saw this notification of her passing. I have so many memories from long, long ago of being around your family.
Your mom was a lovely person and I was very glad to reconnect with her briefly not long before she moved away from Edmonton. I consider myself lucky that day to have been walking past her house and she happened to be on her doorstep. When she realized who I was, she kindly invited me inside and we had a nice chat.
She really was pretty amazing when I think about how hard she worked to complete her university degree while raising 4 children. I think that we can appreciate this more now than when we were kids. I recall seeing her probably 20 years ago at an evening lecture at the Provincial Museum in Edmonton. The lecture topic was prehistoric cave art discovered in caves in France. Little did I know we had this interest in common!
I know she is greatly missed by all of you.
Thinking of all of you.
Natalie
Dear Dianne, Janice, Pat, Doug, in-laws and grandchildren:
I am so sorry to learn about Dorothy's passing, I will miss her greatly.
We met in the mid 1970s, when Frances Klingle and I were teaching art history courses at the Faculty of Extension. Dorothy took several of our courses and we developed a friendship.
A bright woman who knew her own mind and spoke it. An interesting person with great knowledge of financial matters.
She generously shared her knowledge of shoes and handbags from the Museum's collection and bought reference books on those subjects, which she donated to the Museum.
We went to concerts together and dinners - out and in my home. Some of our restaurants were adventurous selections and didn't always turn out; then we found Gabana Restaurant and that became "home".
Dorothy and I also enjoyed attending art auctions together and discussed the merits of the paintings.
She shared her explorations at Winners for jackets and handbags and at selected dinner showed off her collection of shoes!
We read and discussed detective stories and that continued when she moved to Calgary via email letters and phone calls.
I feel fortunate to have had Dorothy in my life.
All the best to the family.
Ciao, Bente
