Dave Grant of Calgary, AB, passed away on Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at the age of 96 years. Dave is survived by his daughter Marilyn Schmidt (Dave), son David Grant (Catherine), daughter-in-law Trish Miller, his granddaughters, Christie Schmidt (Greg Wallace), Jaclyn Schmidt and Casey Grant. Dave was predeceased by his wife of sixty-six years, Sylvia, in 2016 and his son Richard Douglas Grant in 2013.

Dave was born and raised in Bashaw, AB. At the age of eighteen he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Wireless Airgunner and served from 1942-1945. After his military service he attended the University of Alberta and graduated in 1951 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology. Dave devoted his entire professional career, from 1951 to 1981, to working for Amoco Canada and Amoco International. Most of his working years were spent in Calgary, but he also spent time in Chicago, Tunisia and Houston. After retirement, Dave and Sylvia enjoyed travelling, spending time at their homes in Calgary and Gold Canyon, AZ, and golfing at the Earl Grey Golf Club where he was an active member for more than fifty years. Dave was also a member of the congregation at Lakeview United Church in Calgary for fifty-seven years.

Dave will be remembered by family and friends as a loving husband, father and grandfather; a trusted and loyal friend, and; a respected professional.  He loved to be surrounded by his family and treasured special times that brought the entire family together.  In challenging times, Dave could be counted on for his wise counsel and calm demeanor.  Dave was generous with his time and was always happy to host friends and family for a drink and a good conversation.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the caring staff at the Staywell Manor in Calgary, Dave’s home for the last five years.

In living memory of David Grant, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area.
