Condolences
My sympathy goes to the family John was one of the "guys" at the Golf Dome or at the Golf Course, always had time to stop and chat and inject a little humor into your day. His passion for his game of golf was legendary, with his unique habit of not keeping score " just hit the next best shot" That little grin and the ability to make you smile will be missed.

I very saddened to see this today. John and I were in Science together, and we did play football against each other many times. I remembered always to avoid him on the field, if I could. He was very fast for a big guy. We spent a lot of time together in the Science lounge and study hall back in 74-75, and our paths would cross later when he was at the downtown campus in PT. I also live in Calgary and sadly I had no idea he was here. Rest In Peace JD. A real super guy! My condolences to his family and friends.

I was saddened to see John’s obituary in Saturday’s Herald. Although I too have been in Calgary for many years, I had not seen John since university. We grew up in the same part of Winnipeg, went to school together and played on the same hockey team for several years. I will never forget John’s large presence on the ice and his enthusiastic father in the stands. After reading about John on Saturday, I notified several of the friends we grew up with. Each of us remembered one particular game in juvenile hockey when John and another big player from the other team collided accidentally at centre ice with terrific force; miraculously they got up quickly when we were certain they’d each been knocked out. We also all remembered his skill at lacrosse and football and his scholastic success. On behalf of these old friends, I pass along our condolences to his wife and sons, to his brother Dale whom we also knew well, and to the rest of his family and friends. Rest In Peace John and thank you for the memories.

I know John as Karen’s husband, who had a great sense of humour, made me blush with the things that came out of his mouth, and loved his family so much!

John was one of my favourite people, during my earlier years, I stay with my sisters family, I had a room were I slept with the two boys, John and Dale who slept on bunk bed, some times I used to get back to bed during early AM, these guys would wake up about 5 AM and start to play around on the loud side, I would keep telling them to shut up and let me sleep, that never worked very well. Before then, when I was working in B.C., I went to visit the boys in Vancouver, they were quite young then, not school age, I got in to Vancouver about 4 AM, and when to sleep on the chesterfield, I remember one of the boys getting up early and coming to the chesterfield and saying the other one "it's Uncle Neil" in a loud excited voice. That was 1958 and seems like a century ago. To me John was one of the Good Guys, his character traits will remain with me for as long as I live.
