When I was 18 years old, I went with a friend to uncle Doug and aunt Qula. It was an exciting holiday in, for us, the far country of Canada and I have a lot of very nice memories of my stay in Calgary and surroundings. Ten years ago, I did this trip again with my family: my husband Jan Willem and my daughters Merel and Saskia. We stayed a week in Okotoks with Doug and I was glad my children could experience something of the Canadian way of living. Although it was a littlebit heavy for Doug to have four members of a family at his home, he really enjoyed that we cooked for him . We went with him to the famous Calgary Chuckwagon races and there we almost lost him, because a very cold wind blew in the evening and he became hypothermic. With all the cloths we had, we tried to keep him warm and we succeeded in coming home with a living uncle Doug.
We will remember Doug as a gentle, friendly man, we are grateful that he was surrounded by people that took care of him.
Rust in vrede, Doug! (RIP, Doug)
