Obituary of Katherine SQUIRE

October 22, 1916 – Pekan, Alberta

February 22, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

Katherine Squire, beloved wife of Ronald Everett Squire of Calgary, AB, passed away on Monday, February 22, 2021 at the age of 104 years.

Kay, along with five brothers and a sister, were raised by their mother, after their father passed away. With home life being hard, Kay left at an early age and grew into an independent woman. There were many memorable times in her life while living in Vancouver and various Alberta towns.  She loved sharing stories of her work. During WWII she built military airplanes. The job was famously known as a “Rosie Riveter”.

Moving back to work in a small Alberta town changed her life. Kay caught Everett’s eye. He was in the area working a summer job while attending U of A (Engineering). Immediately after his graduation, they married on June 30, 1950. Until moving from their hillside home that cascaded with flowers, and into the bungalow condo lifestyle, she was passionate about gardening, entertaining, travelling, shopping, and treating the nephews and nieces. She was always stylish and loved the weekly outing to the beauty salon and the neighbouring clothing stores.

She is survived by her husband Everett, as well as numerous nephews and nieces and friends.

As per Kay’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. She will be interred in Drumheller, AB, at a later date. Condolences and memories may be shared and viewed on Kay’s obituary at www.McinnisandHolloway.com.

In living memory of Katherine Squire, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB T2S 2L5, Telephone: 403-243-8200.
