Obituary of Yolanda Chui San LOO

October 6, 1973 – Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan
February 28, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

Yolanda Chui San Loo, beloved daughter of Ruben and Rebecca Loo, of Calgary, unexpectedly passed away on Sunday, February 28, 2021 at the tender age of 47 years.

Yolanda was born on October 6, 1973, in Moose Jaw, SK, but grew up in Lethbridge, AB.  She spent time in Medicine Hat, Edmonton and finally settled in Calgary. As a happy child, Yolanda spent a great deal of time outdoors, helping out at her family’s restaurant (Ruby Family Restaurant), and found her life-long passion of participating in sport activities.

Yolanda attended and graduated high school at Winston Churchill in Lethbridge. She played volleyball, badminton and soccer and developed her passion for sports early, helping her live an active and fulfilling life.  Later she attended the University of Lethbridge obtaining her Bachelor of Science Degree. She then continued her education by attending Medicine Hat College, specializing in Pre-Physiotherapy leading her to be accepted to the University of Alberta where she obtained her degree in Physiotherapy.

Settling in Calgary, she began her career as a successful physiotherapist.  Working in various clinics throughout Calgary, she developed a passion for Sports Medicine and volunteered her skills to many sports teams including rugby, volleyball and beach volleyball.  Loving to learn, she was always taking courses to expand her knowledge to further help her patients. This passion for learning developed her skills in the area of pelvic health with a specific focus on men’s pelvic health - an area where she was a leader and innovator. In more recent years, Yolanda worked as a teaching and lab assistant for Pelvic Health Solutions.  She was an excellent teacher and mentor, and loved to share her knowledge and expertise with others.  She was a skilled and compassionate therapist.

Yolanda had a zest for life and was up for any adventure.  Her laughter and smile were infectious, her care for patients, friends and family was endless and she was always full of positive energy.  She had a very full circle of terrific friends and colleagues as she radiated positivity and people connected immediately to her.  She was a friend to all and had an incredible ability to include and connect people. She had a wonderful sense of humor and a vibrant personality.  There wasn’t anything Yolanda wouldn’t do to help those that she loved.

In addition to her loving parents, Ruben and Rebecca Loo, Yolanda is also survived by her elder brother Leo (Suzy) Loo and nieces, Katelyn and Emma.  She is also survived by her younger brother Michael Loo.  Yolanda was loved and cherished by many aunts, uncles and cousins across Canada, the US, China and Hong Kong. Yolanda will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved her. Her missing presence will be felt by all her family, friends and colleagues near and far. Yolanda will be in all our hearts forever…we love you Yo!
