SAIT's ALIVE (The Association of Retired and Former employees of SAIT and their spouses) extend their deepest sympathy.
Merlin and I met when he arrived from Trinidad. We became good friends as we attended school and then roomed together for some time. We had many good, typical young people experiences during our time in Edmonton. It was fun trying to have Merlin experience Canadian culture and of course snow. He adapted fairly quickly. On his return from trips back home to Trinidad he would bring "Moose Milk" hidden in the bottom of his suitcase. That stuff was strong enough to take the eye out of a snake.
After I left Edmonton, we did not see one another often, but Merlin was always on my mind as he had made an impact on my life. It was a pleasure spending time with him when he visited Kelowna.
I can see by the tributes that the family gave to Merlin that he had a very positive impact on each of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was truly loved.
My Merlin's family experience Gods peace during this time.
Dear Traboulay Family. It is much sadness upon hearing of my cousin Merlin's passing. We were both born in Trinidad, he San Fernando and me, Penal and we were 3 months apart in age. We had such good times together and that continued but to a lesser degree when he moved to Calgary and I to Toronto. However, as things would happen I moved to California and then had a short enjoyable visit with him when he came with his 2 older beautiful children to see my show in Calgary. We spent the night at his home and when I returned to California we continued "blagging" (Trinidad for chatting) via phone.
My thoughts are with you and Merlin. He has earned his Wings.
Sincerely, Donis aka Gerry Bednob
Dear Traboulay Family;
We send you our love and prayers on the death of Merlin.
We know that he has not been well for sometime and now he has gone home.
We have happy memories of holiday times and visits in Calgary, Edmonton and then Kelowna. Merlin and Albert were cousins and got along well; especially when people would thank Merlin for the "church service", mistakenly thinking that he was Albert. That really tickled Merlin.
May God be with you , here and in Trinidad.
Love, Beryl, Ramona, Kim and Kaylyn (Baldeo)
I have fond memories of my uncle Merlin and his family from our days, summer vacation in invermere and Windermere particularly the coal stream resort... He will sadly be missed...
I deeply mourn the loss of my good friend, Merlin, he was like the brother I never had. We grew up in San Fernando, Trinidad and have known each other since 1947. Merlin also attended my wedding and was a part of the wedding party. We continued our friendship when we both immigrated to Canada. Memorable events continued through social activities and regular family visits throughout our lifetime. We often confided with each other and we thoroughly enjoyed each other's company through the taste of Caribbean cooking here in Edmonton . We kept in touch with each other regularly to the end. May your soul rest in peace my brother. "If we never meet again this side of heaven, I will meet you on that beautiful shore.." Our thoughts and prayers are with you all, sincerely, Leo, Georgina and Brian

We are sincerely sorry for the loss. Although I did not get to meet Merlin personally, I certainly know he was so loved and cared for during his last months here. Know my heart is with you and your family during this time. Merlin to me will always be know as The King.
Please know I am here for you all. Merlin you will be so missed.
My heart is heavy knowing that I won't see or hear Uncle Merlin's voice again. I have so many fond memories growing up in Calgary with Uncle Merlin, Aunty Doris and the children. Merlin was my Dad's best friend but always an Uncle to me.
He attended my wedding and my parent's 50th anniversary celebration. We saw him regularly when he came to Edmonton to pick up his Roti & Doubles. He always made me laugh and smile. I remember his last conversation with my Dad ( on speaker the phone) where he and my Dad shared jokes and laughed it made us all smile but left me somber because I know he was not feeling well. May you find peace, free of pain, Uncle Merlin, we will deeply miss you and know that we love you just the way you are!!

Uncle Merlin was alway good to me. He had his ways but his heart meant well. I enjoyed speaking to him, he had a strong caring and witty voice. Will miss him. Sending our prayers and condolences to everyone. Love.
There are a lot of memories of the 28+ years we were together. Merlin was a man of high principals. He had a quick wit and come back, needless to say some of them should have been censored. He loved to entertain and was 'The host with the mostest'. My fondest memories are of the summer vacations spent each year at the Billabong campground in Westbank, BC. He loved his children and always wanted them to excel in everything they did be it school, sports and music. As an educator he very much valued the pursuit of an education. Regrettably, circumstances didn't allow us to grow old together. Rest in peace dear Merlin.
Doris
