Obituary of Patricia Anne MEYER
October 18, 1934 – Lethbridge, Alberta
March 9, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta
Patricia Meyer, beloved wife of George Meyer of Calgary, AB, passed away on Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at the age of 86 years.
Patricia (Pat) was born in Lethbridge, AB on October 18, 1934. She grew up in Spring Coulee, Magrath, and Nanton. Following high school, Pat qualified and worked as a stenographer over the next fifteen years. She attended the Faculty of Arts, University of Lethbridge 1972-1979, and was a regular at the Red Deer College summer arts program.
Pat married George in 1955. George’s role in the newspaper business led them to live and thrive in Lethbridge, Nanton, Camrose, Taber and High River, and in retirement, in Calgary. They loved spending time with family and friends in Waterton, Mission (TX) and Casa Grande (AZ).
Pat was an active member of the United Church wherever she lived, and was most proud of working with young people in CGIT. Pat played the piano, and musicales with family and friends were a common occurrence, leaving many wonderful memories. Pat was an accomplished visual artist, from drawing and sketching, to painting, printmaking, and silkscreen. She was also an accomplished seamstress. But, her greatest love was pottery. “I feel spirit when I take a blob of clay, put it on the potter’s wheel, and bring it onto the centre…”. She was known for her love of function feeding form, her backyard kiln, and her personalized pottery gifts.
Pat will be most remembered for her cheerful attitude, kindness, and thoughtfulness. Her creativity and artistic nature was evident in everything she did, but she was also pragmatic and brought a no-nonsense approach to life.
Besides her loving husband, Pat is survived by her three daughters, Holly Meyer of Edmonton, Janet (Rob) Valentine of Las Vegas, Virginia Meyer of Calgary; one grandson, Evan (Kirstyn) Meyer-Scott of Edmonton, and two great-grandchildren. Pat is also survived by one sister, Roberta Robinson of Calgary, one brother Dennis (Janice) Johnson of Nanton, one sister-in-law, Cathie Johnson of High River, and special cousin Carole (Don) Orr of Ottawa; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Pat was predeceased by her brother Herb Johnson, and brother-in-law George Robinson.
