Obituary of Lucia PIETROMONACO

On Saturday March 13, 2021, Lucia Pietromonaco passed away peacefully at the age of 95 in Calgary, Alberta. 

Lucia was born the eldest daughter of eight children. She was born in Vinchiaturo, Italy, on July 16, 1925, and was married to Berardino in 1950; she then sailed from Italy to Canada with her 2-year-old daughter in April 1954 to meet up with her husband. She resided in Montreal, Quebec, until October 2013 when she joined her children, and her grandchildren in Alberta. 

Lucia worked as seamstress creating and designing children’s clothing at Charming Fashions. She retired in 1990 but continued to sew for friends and family. She also enjoyed knitting and crocheting and continued to do so until her final day. 

Lucia took English as a third language in her late seventies to better communicate with her grandchildren. Her second language was French, with Italian as her mother tongue.
 
Lucia is survived by her children, Emilia (Ronald Lambertus), and Tony; and grandchildren, Alysia, Ian, Craig, and Rhyan. Lucia was predeceased by her husband Berardino who passed away in September 1986 in Montreal, Quebec, and her seven siblings, Giovanni, Nicola, Vittorio, Anna, Francesco, Rita, and Pasquale.

Cremation will take place on Wednesday, March 17, 2021 with only family attending to respect current COVID-19 restrictions. Once COVID restrictions are lifted, a Mass and Celebration of Life will be held in Montreal, Quebec, surrounded by family and friends. At her request, Lucia’s ashes will be laid to rest with her husband, Berardino, at the Field of Honour in Point Claire, Quebec. Her last five years, she resided comfortably at the Providence Care Centre in Calgary. The family would like to thank the caring staff at the Providence Care Centre, Boxwood Community, including Dr. D’Souza for their exceptional care and patience in taking care of mom.
