Obituary of Louise Doreen KESLER

March 26, 1939 -    Nelson British Columbia

April 14, 2021 - Vulcan Alberta

Louise Doreen Kesler beloved sister and friend, passed away on Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at the age of 82 years.

Louise was a kind, strong, compassionate woman with a witty sense of humour and extraordinary generosity of spirit. She took great joy in her family and friends and was revered by them until her peaceful passing in the early morning hours of the April 14, at the hospital in Vulcan, AB. Louise lived independently in her own home in Calgary up until the last three months of her life. She was the eldest of three daughters of Hertha and Percy Scott of Nelson, B.C (formerly of Fort MacLeod AB).

Gifted from a young age, Louise excelled at school, became an accomplished pianist, organist and Church soloist. She played a number of musical instruments, including the banjo and accordion. At the age of 16 Louise won the highest marks in the four western provinces for her vocal ability and one of her prizes enabled her to cut a record with a recording company. She chose “I’ll Walk with God”, by Paul Francis Webster, ( who won Academy Awards for the “Best Original Song”) in the 1950’s. One month later Louise achieved the highest adjudicated marks in B.C. for her piano skills..

Following graduation from high school, Louise moved to Vancouver in 1958, for two years to work in marketing for the B.C. Telephone Company. Subsequently, she settled in Calgary, first working in an office associated with the aviation field where she met her future husband and later on moved into finance in the oil and gas industry for the remainder of her career.

Louise married her devoted husband “Artie” on October 9th, 1965 and had 35 years of happiness with him. The two of them enjoyed traveling, entertaining their friends and playing cards socially. Louise especially loved her music and flower garden. Her favorite flowers were “sweet peas”, which was the pet name Art had for her, “My Sweet Pea”.

Louise was also a Calgary Beta Sigma Phi Chapter member for 64 years and served twice as President, as well as Chairman for the Northwest regional Convention. She was a steadfast volunteer and remained active in community causes and events throughout her lifetime.

Louise’s husband Arthur passed away on May 8, 2000. She is survived by two sisters, Darlene Gooch of Vulcan, AB and Joan Geldart (Bruce) of West Vancouver B.C.; her five nieces and nephews whom cherished their aunt, Troy Gooch, Cindy Goldhawk (Rick), Sherri Ng (Dave) , Scott Geldart ( Katty) and Shannon Stock (Adam). Louise also enjoyed a close circle of many dear friends, notably her “lifetime” friends, Hilda Stonoski of Sardis BC and Carolyn Taylor of Abbottsford BC. They were often referred to as the proverbial “3 Musketeers.”

“ May the winds of love blow gently,

So you can clearly hear

That we will always love and miss you,

And wish that you were here.”

Our family would like to sincerely thank the dedicated and caring staff at Foothills Hospital and the Vulcan hospital.
