Obituary of Mel Darren WOLFE
April 30, 1963 – Calgary, Alberta
April 10, 2021 – Foothills, Alberta
Mel Wolfe, beloved husband of Karna Wolfe (nee Gjertsen), of Foothills, AB, passed away suddenly on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at the age of 57years.
Mel was born in Calgary, AB on April 30, 1963. He was raised in Calgary, in the community of Fairview. Mel later moved south of Calgary to Davisburg, where he and his wife Karna built their family home. Mel worked for over thirty-seven years in geophysical acquisition in Western Canada. This included surveying, consulting and Indigenous relations. He was highly respected in his field for his honesty, compassion, dedication and willingness to share his wisdom with others. He was able to negotiate with diplomacy and fairness. Mel could be described as a "straight shooter" by anyone who had the pleasure of working with him. He was a member of the Canadian Association of Geophysical Contractors (CAGC) for eighteen years, and received a Presidential Award for volunteering with the associations' Seismic in Motion.
Mel married Karna in June of 1992. They were together for over thirty-six years. Mel accomplished so much throughout his life and was particularly proud of his home and family. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, cooking/grilling, and hockey. He particularly enjoyed watching his children's sports and took great pride in their accomplishments. Mel always loved taking family vacations and fishing trips, with friends and loved ones. Some of his favourite places to visit were Mexico, the West Coast, camping in Southern Alberta and the cabin at Sylvan Lake. He will be most remembered for his trademark shorts and Hawaiian shirts, which he wore all year-round, including to the hockey rink in the wintertime. Some knew Mel as "Melvino" or "Mad Dog", and he always loved giving unique nicknames to his friends and family. Mel was a man of many strengths. He will be missed for his charismatic laugh and fun-loving personality.
Besides his loving wife Karna, Mel is survived by his daughters, Laura (Mike) and Morgan; and his son Mitchell. Mel is also survived by his brother Derek (Angie); and his sisters, Cindy (Ian) and Debbie; as well as numerous relatives and friends.
Mel was predeceased by his mother Olga Morgan, stepfather Hal Morgan, and brother-in-law Rob Matthew.
A Private Celebration of Mel's life will be held at a later date. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Mel’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.
In living memory of Mel Wolfe, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area
