Obituary of Paul Vincent LONG
October 1, 1945 – Hamilton, Ontario
May 5, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta
Paul Long, beloved husband of Linda Long (nee Cane), of Calgary, Alberta, passed away at home on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at the age of 75 years.
Paul was born in Hamilton, Ontario, on October 1, 1945. Paul married Linda Jean Cane in 1969, and they moved to Calgary, Alberta, in 1994.
He loved meeting, befriending and helping people. Even after retiring, he volunteered as a White Hatter at the Calgary Airport. He was truly energized and thrilled when he could direct travellers to their gate, reunite them with a missing wallet, or help them make alternate arrangements to get to their final destination.
Paul was a renaissance man with many varied interests. He excelled at anything that he set his mind to, from starting his own business, to carpentry and gardening. He had a passion for his hobbies, whether it be sailing, dancing, squash or running. A lifelong athlete, he completed his first full Ironman in 2003 and then completed five more. Paul and Linda loved travel, and over the years, they visited over twenty countries across five continents.
Besides his loving wife, Paul is survived by his sons, Everitt and Jordan; his daughters-in-law, Isolde and Natacha; and their six wonderful grandchildren, Ian, Logan, Gwyneth, Ryker, Emmett and Elliott. Paul is also survived by his brothers, Brian and Al; sisters-in-law, Linda, Mary, Debbie, Joan and Chris; his sisters, Annette and Christine; and brothers-in-law Jon, Michel and Doug; as well as many wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbours and friends.
Paul was predeceased by his parents, John and Audrey Long; parents-in-law, Charles Bruce and Catherine Jean Cane; his brother Gary Long; and his brother-in-law, Allen Smith.
A Private Funeral Service will be held, on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. MT (5:00 p.m. ET). Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Paul’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.
