Obituary of Tracy David SHINGOOSE

April 7, 1947 - Cresent Lake, Saskatchewan

May 12, 2021 – Strathmore, Alberta

Dave Shingoose, a cowboy and chuck wagon driver, passed away peacefully at the Strathmore Hospital on Wednesday, May 12, 2021.

Dave was the son of Walter and Helen Shingoose. The name Shingoose in Saulteaux means Weasel. Dave grew up in Saulteaux  Cote Reserve in Yorkton, SK, where he learnt the value of hard work, which he passed down to his children.  He was the seventh of eight kids, lived with his family in a little log shack on the Crescent Lake Metis Community. Dave attended Meadow View School, where he received an award from the Audubon for not missing a day of school for five years. He had his best friend, a sleigh dog named Scotty that would pull him to school a mile and a half. Scotty then waited for him at the school gates until he finished, and pulled him back home. David was an avid curler in high school and was a good skip, where he would pick a team and lead them to many winnings. Dave joined the army in 1965 (The Service Corps) and was honorably discharged in 1968. He often spoke of the skills and discipline teachings he learnt.  Dave soon after met the love of his life Loretta, and together with three children, Melissa, Brandie and Karl, they built a happy life on the Siksika Nation.  Dave and Loretta were proud entrepreneurs owning several different businesses and always using their positions to give back to their community. In the summers Dave worked for Kelly Sutherland as an outrider for 10+ seasons then graduated to a chuckwagon driver with the World Professional Chuckwagon Association. Dave was helpful and compassionate, supporting his children through their sports activities and cultural traditions. Together with his family, they lived a humble and simple life. He loved music, and you would often see him and Loretta two-stepping on the dance floor to their favorite country music.

Dave leaves behind his children, Melissa, Brandie and Robert “Bobby”  Badger; his daughter-in-law Erica Many Heads, brothers-in-law, Merlon (Stacey) and Keon (Erica) Doore; sisters-in-law, Charlene and Janice Doore; grandchildren, Breydan, Daisy, Kyle(Amber), Delaney, Sophie, Anthem, Wiley, Jeter, Arianni and Kassian; his brothers, Wilmar (Ruth), Wally, Mindy Shingoose; and sister Mary (Harvey) Pelletier.

He was predeceased by his beautiful wife Loretta Doore, his son Karl Doore, his grandson Karl Doore Jr, parents, Walter and Helen Shingoose; brothers, Isadore, Lester, and Harvey Shingoose.

The Shingoose family would like to thank Siksika for accepting our brother, and treating him as one of your own, and giving him a chance to live out his dream.
