Obituary of Henny Jane THORMOSET

March 13, 1959 – Smithers, British Columbia
May 23, 2021– Calgary, Alberta

Henny Thormoset, beloved wife of David Thormoset of Calgary, AB, passed away on Sunday, May 23, 2021 at the age of 62 years.

Henny was born to Henry and Miny Ten Veen on March 13, 1959 in Smithers, BC. During her childhood, her family moved around the province quite a bit for her dad’s work, with the happy result that she ended up living in Invermere as a young teenager. During that time, she met and became friends with David Thormoset. They married in 1976 and moved to the Netherlands.

After living and working in Holland for nearly eighteen months, Henny and David went on a three-month motorcycle tour of Europe before returning to Canada and taking up post-secondary studies.

Henny graduated from Simon Fraser University with a Bachelor of Education and later obtained a Masters in Education from the University of Toronto. She was a life-long learner and complemented her formal studies with training in adult education, leadership and board governance, becoming a certified instructor herself in all those domains.

Henny’s greatest passion was for her Lord; Jesus was a natural part of many of her conversations. She became a member of Wycliffe Bible Translators in 1993 and, with David and their four children, moved to Cameroon in 1997.  In 2014, Henny and David returned to Canada to take up assignments with Wycliffe in Calgary.

Henny was passionate about helping other people to succeed in attaining their goals and carrying out their own callings. Whether in Cameroon or Canada, she was constantly reaching out to encourage and strengthen people who were struggling. Her ethos was reflected in the tagline of her fledging coaching business, “Results that Matter - positive change in the people you care about.”

Henny was a proud and devoted mother and grandmother. Besides her loving husband, she is survived by her sons and daughter as well as their families, Nathan and Leah (Amina, Celeste), Stefan and Nicole (Emma, Avrielle, Laura) and Sonya and Mitch Fuchs.

Henny is also survived by her sister Netty (Gordon) Palmer, her brothers, Victor (Lucille) and William (Cheryl); her sisters-in-law, Anita (Michael) Birse and Sharon Thormoset; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Henny was predeceased by her parents, Henry and Miny Ten Veen, as well as her son Andreas.

A Private Family Service will be held for Henny’s interment, followed by an online Memorial Service on Sunday, June 6, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Henny’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.
