Obituary of Robert John Edward ALLEN

June 28, 1932 – New Westminster, British Columbia
June 25, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

Robert John Edward Allen, beloved husband of Elaine Allen (nee Stanley), of Calgary, AB, passed away on Friday, June 25, 2021 at the age of 88 years.

Robert was born on June 28, 1932 to Agnes Dodds and John Edward Allen in New Westminster, BC. 

He was a well-known athlete in New Westminster until contracting rheumatic fever. He graduated from Duke of Connaught High School in 1949, attended UBC for two years, and began employment with Shell Canada, which lasted for thirty years, mainly developing retail marketing properties. 

Robert married his high school sweetheart in 1954 after she graduated from nursing school, and had 70 wonderful years with Elaine as his best friend. Together they raised five children.

He was a well-known swim coach (Foothills Swim Club) and as the only amateur coach of the Canadian National Team where he coached at the Pan Am Games and European Tour. 

After retirement from Shell he was admitted to law school at the University of Calgary, graduated, and practiced for over twenty-five years in northwest Calgary. 

He was an avid fisherman, big game and bird game hunter all over BC, Alberta, and Montana. Bob was an original season ticket holder for the BC Lions (1954 – 1958). They transferred to Calgary in 1960 and became Calgary Stampeders season ticket holders and avid fans for fifty-one years.

Besides his loving wife Elaine, Robert is survived by his children, Bob Jr. Bill, Janet, Sheila; and grandchildren, Lauren, Amanda, Sebastien, Ethan, Jasper, and Willow.

He was predeceased by his son Brian.
