Obituary of Hugh Clydesdale LOWE

June 15, 1929 – Montreal, Quebec
May 26, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

Hugh C. Lowe of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 26, 2021, three weeks before his 92nd Birthday.

Hugh was born in Montreal, the son of Titus and Helen Lowe. He was a loving father and supported his two children through their adult years. There are many fond memories of Hugh, preparing school lunches for Audra and Malcolm, and his desire to assist in the kitchen on special occasions, birthday parties, Christmas, Easter and Thanksgiving (Turkey sausage stuffing was his speciality). Hugh never missed taking Malcolm to every hockey, football and soccer practice or game in his early years, and continued to watch him play hockey, football and softball in his adult life.

Hugh followed in his Father’s vocation and joined Electrolux Canada in Montreal, where he worked in Finance for several years. In 1963, he was transferred to Calgary to open the Company’s Regional Office as Manager. On December 10, 1979, he joined Peace Pipeline Corp (Pembina) and he retired on January 1, 1990.

Hugh grew up in a family that enjoyed singing at all special occasions which he continued through his life. In 1981, he joined the Stampede City Barbershop Chorus singing Bass. He was an active member on the Board Committees and bringing in new members. He ended his much enjoyed hobby in a quartet called GOLD.

He was a member of The Perfection No. 9 Masonic Lodge for many years and also participated in all activities and never hesitated to volunteer.

Hugh is lovingly survived by his son Malcolm, former wife Shirley Allen; nieces, Deborah Lydon (Dave), and Laurie Champagne; nephews, Michael (Denus), David (Petra), Robert (Marie) Gobby, Titus (Sue), Mark Lowe, Dean and Ross McCleery, Murray (Susie), Neil (Helene), Douglas (Natalie) Champagne and Gary Brown (Karen). He was predeceased by his two sisters, Violet Gobby and Gloria McLeery; one brother Titus, and his daughter Audra Shirley on November 26, 2020.

Celebration of Hugh’s life will be held at a later date. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Hugh’s obituary at www.McInnisandHolloway.com.

The family extends their heartfelt thanks to all the caring and compassionate staff at Southwood Care Centre for their care of Hugh.
