Obituary of Mary SERTICH

November 17, 1924 – Schumacher, Ontario
June 30, 2021– Calgary, Alberta

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mary Sertich of Calgary, AB, on Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at the age of 96 years.

Mary was born to Anka and Frank Banich in Schumacher where she grew up and was an active member of the Croatian Hall.  At that time Schumacher was a vibrant Croatian community that she was so proud to be a part of.  A great singer, dancer and also played the tamburica.  Mom was well known for her musical talent.  As well, mom was always busy in the kitchen making traditional Croatian meals.  No one made a better strudel than her.

Mary moved to Calgary, Alberta in 1975 where she worked as a secretary in the oil and gas sector until her retirement.  She loved spending time with her family and friends, shopping, eating out, baking and her numerous trips to Vegas. 

Mary is survived by her daughters Nancy Baskin (Dale) and Janice D’Eath, grandchildren Matthew Baskin (Leigh-Ann), Jillian Bowden (Clark), Michael D’Eath (Justine) and great grandchildren Peyton and Cierra Baskin and Thomas and Nicholas Bowden along with numerous nieces and nephews. 

Mary was predeceased by her husband Mirko, son-in-law Gordon D’Eath, her brothers John Banich and Frank Banich and sister-in-law Alice Banich. 

A private graveside service will be held at a later date at the Timmins Memorial Cemetery. Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Mary’s obituary here.
