Condolences
My sincere condolences to the Molbaks during this time of loss. My parents were good friends with Marie and Niels since they all came to Canada and I thank the Molbaks for their fellowship and support. We were ‘family friends’ as the kids in both families grew up and I have lots of fond memories of our times together. I remember Marie as kind and generous, hard-working and tough, with a strong personality, an authoritative voice and lots of good advice, as true to her Danish roots, and as an amazing baker and cook. I remember: playing football with lille Niels (Otto-Man) in Cochrane; riding mini-bikes with him from our acreage to theirs, down the road allowances, across farmers’ fields and lifting our (heavy) Hondas over barb-wired fences; stor Niels trying to teach me how to drive stick in a old green Calgary Power truck; Anna and my sisters getting into trouble; eating delicious hakkebøf med bløde stegte løg around the Molbaks’ bountiful table; gorging myself on juicy raspberries straight from the canes; admiring stor Niels for his engineering role with the power company and the influence that had on my career choices; and, being quite impressed when lille Niels pressed himself up to the ceiling in between door frames. As I’m thinking about these (and many other) experiences, I see the warm, smiling face of Marie with her bright eyes, ready with wise words and some baked treat, before or after each new adventure. Marie, you were a true friend and you will be missed.
Dear Niels, Anna, Pete, and Family,
Our thoughts and prayers are with you as you celebrate the life of Marie. Growing up, I always had two homes because Marie let me have sleepovers with Anna whenever we wanted. We spent our days eating breakfasts of crusty buns, meat and cheese, playing with animals, running around the acreage, and always getting a box of cookies and veggies to bring home. I can hear Marie’s laugh, and see her smile. She had a heart of pure gold.
Love, Kim (Rasmussen) Deane
