Marie MOLBAK

Obituary of Marie Nielsen MOLBAK

June 16, 1931 - Klinting, Denmark

July 19, 2021 - Calgary, Alberta

Marie Molbak, beloved wife and mother, passed away on Monday, July 19, 2021 at the age of 90 years

Marie was born in Klinting, Denmark where she grew up with her eight other siblings (Marie being the eldest). At the age of 12 she started her working life at a nearby farm.  She was hard working and adventurous where she eventually traveled to Norway, England and then set her sights on Canada.  She arrived in Calgary in 1960 and worked for various families, but her passion was cooking which landed her a job at Morraine Lake where she became well known for her cookies.

Marie loved the Canadian nature and was often found on the hiking trails in the Rockies. Marie loved her sports especially the Flames, but was particularly fond of bowling where she was always pursuing the perfect game.

Marie loved watching her children participate in the variety of sports where she could always be seen on the sidelines cheering Niels on at football and hockey and Anna at her horse shows and gymnastics.  She was always willing to lend a hand and make sure everyone made it to the game on time, so soon became several kid’s favorite hockey and football Mom.

Marie loved animals and had a special gift where the animals seem to know she was their saviour or protector.  She often took in strays just from the side of the road or if someone had puppies or kittens to give away.  She never said no to pets even if it was a turtle, rabbit, guinea pig, she loved them all.

Marie had an incredible green thumb, while living on the acreage, she would love being out in the garden where she grew enough to feed all the neighbors and then some, but no one ever turned down the opportunity for her bountiful variety of vegetables and pail full of raspberries.

Marie loved to travel, but always wanted it fun for her kids where of course Disneyland was one place they visited, but being from Denmark Legoland was a must see.

Marie made sure all the family stayed connected with her Danish roots, making several trips to Denmark visiting her and her husband’s parents, siblings, and extended family. However, Canada was ultimately her home and she knew her heart belonged in Canada.

Marie could always light up a room with her presence and always just knew the right thing to say, but never wanted to be the center of attention just knew how to make everyone welcome.  Her door was always open for anyone to come visit, she made life long friends instantly which she kept in touch with over many years. This was the quality that most captured the heart of her husband.  They would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in November 2021.

Marie was a very caring, generous and loving wife, mom and friend.  She has touched many hearts and will be remembered for years to come.

Marie is survived by her loving husband Niels Frederik and her daughter Anna. Her son Niels Otto was always in her heart and they will now be reunited to look after each other and watch over us all. Besides her loving family, Marie is survived by four siblings (Aase, Hans, Ulla and Dora) in Denmark, and extended family in Calgary, various towns throughout British Columbia, and Denmark.
