Obituary for and by Katalin "Kathy" Collins
Kathy Collins, beloved wife of Michael Collins passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at the age of 69 years, ending a lengthy battle with Multiple Sclerosis.
In 1956, at the age of five, Kathy’s family fled the Hungarian Revolution and immigrated to the US where they lived in upstate New York until relocating to Ontario’s Niagara region in 1967.
She attended McMaster University where she met the love of her life. Kathy and Michael married in 1975 and started their married life in Ottawa and moved to Calgary in 1981. Kathy enjoyed a successful career in Human Resources with TransAlta Utilities, United Farmers of Alberta and lastly as a consultant with Salopek & Associates until retiring in 2016.
Kathy was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1994. She lived quietly with the limitations and symptoms for many years but, in recent months, the rapidly debilitating complications of this cruel disease worsened. She was blessed to have Michael’s complete love and support in making the transition of her choosing. Thank you to the wonderful staff of the MAID team (Medical Assistance in Dying). You preserved her dignity to the very end.
She is remembered by her devoted husband; her brothers, Alex (Ebe), Juice (Patti), John (Susan), and Jeff (Tracy); sister Julie; her nieces Krissy, Lauren, Sarah, Jula and Rachel; and nephew Evan; as well as numerous extended family, in-laws and many friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB) on Thursday, August 5, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home.
