Obituary of Barbara Julia Kitchen

March 25, 1951 – London, England 
August 4, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

Barbara Kitchen, beloved wife of Robert Kitchen, of Calgary, Alberta, passed away on Wednesday, August 4, 2021, at the age of 70 years.

Barbara was a dedicated student and teacher, graduating from the University of Toronto as a Chemical Engineer. She was the first female engineer hired by Imperial Oil at Sarnia, Ontario. She went on to work on a Master’s degree at the University of Western Ontario. Barbara was a member of The Calgary Ukulele Strummers. Barbara was a volunteer at Pet Access League Calgary, Scouts Canada, and Girl Guides as well as numerous camps and jamborees. She enjoyed music, camping, and gardening. She was particularly proud of her time spent with children, grandchildren, and helping others.

Barbara always helped others. Her favorite saying was “always smile”.  She will be most remembered for making people smile.

Besides her loving husband Robert, Barbara is survived by her two sons, Henry Kitchen (Laura Nethery) of Calgary, AB and Cliff Kitchen (Gabriela Kitchen) of Canmore, AB; her daughter Andrea Kitchen (Michelle Bjolverud) of Calgary, AB; her four grandchildren, Olivia Kitchen, Sebastian Kitchen, Lilah Kitchen, and Jasper Kitchen; and her sister Elizabeth Ciemniewski (Tim Millard) of Schomberg, Ontario. Barbara will also be lovingly remembered by numerous extended family and friends and her three dogs Tuxedo, Dziazmyn, and Ginger. Barbara was predeceased by her parents, Andrew and Julia Ciemniewski.
