Obituary of Don SARJEANT
January 28, 1930 – Bawlf, Alberta
August 17, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta
Don Sarjeant, beloved husband of Eve Sarjeant (nee Ciocia), of Calgary, AB, passed away on Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at the age of 91 years.
Don was born in Bawlf, AB, Canada on January 28, 1930. He married his wife Eve in 1955 that same year they moved to Calgary, AB. Don graduated from the SAIT with a certificate in Land Surveying he was also trained as a Draftsman. He was a member of the Alberta Roadbuilders and Heavy Construction Association (ARHCA) and worked many years in the sewer and water business as a construction estimator. Don accomplished much through his life and was particularly proud of the time he spent surveying Alberta, Saskatchewan and as far North as Nunavut. He was instrumental in developing many prominent Calgary communities such as Woodlands, Lake Bonavista, Silver Springs, Dalhousie, etc. Don surveyed the original Chinook Centre in the late 1950s. Don had a passion for the outdoors and spent much of his time hunting and fishing. As a youth, he played in the local baseball, curling and hockey leagues. Don was an avid golfer and gardener he also enjoyed carpentry. Don loved to travel, and he visited China, Indonesia, Turkey, Greece, and Mexico but his favorite getaway was always Hawaii. Don enjoyed reading, his preferred books were mostly western novels although he loved the classics such as King Arthur, Moby Dick, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Seas, and Treasure Island. Donald will be most remembered for his kind giving nature and his willingness to help. He was a loving husband and father and a good family provider.
Besides his loving wife, Don is survived by his daughter Susan Blanchard and son-in-law, Eugene Blanchard of Calgary, AB; son Robert Sarjeant and daughter-in-law, Janet Pẽnaflorida Sarjeant of Calgary, AB; two grandchildren, Mariah Blanchard and Liam Sarjeant of Calgary, AB. Don was predeceased by his mother Ethel Mae Sarjeant and father Charles Bedford Sarjeant and by his brother, William “Billy” Charles Sarjeant.
Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at Holy Martyr Peter the Aleut Orthodox Church (1802 33 Ave SW, Calgary, AB) on Sunday, August 22, 2021 at 7:00 p.m.
Funeral Services will be held at Holy Martyr Peter the Aleut Orthodox Church (1802 33 Ave SW, Calgary, AB) on Monday, August 23, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. Reception to follow at the church. Graveside Service to follow at Mountain View Memorial Gardens (17th Avenue South East at Garden Road). Condolences, memories and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
