Obituary of Margaret Anne BRYDON

August 20, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

Margaret “Peggy” Anne Brydon of Calgary, AB, passed away on Friday, August 20, 2021 at the age of 96 years.

Peggy was born in Portage la Prairie, MB to Margaret and William Tucker, on May 2, 1925.  After University in Winnipeg she then began her teaching career in 1946, a career she completed at Mount Royal College in 1988. She married William (Bill) Brydon in 1948 and had four children. In 1960, Bill passed away, leaving Peggy to raise her children alone.  Peggy restarted her teaching career at Mount Royal College, teaching primarily French, Latin and English, retiring after twenty-eight years. Her passion for teaching and scholarship was valued by the students who studied with her and by whoever happened to be around. She loved knowledge, music, literature, art, dance and travelling. Peggy was a dedicated Christian and a member of St. Matthew’s United Church.     

Peggy is survived by her sons, Alexander, of White Rock, BC, and James, of Peace River, AB; daughters, Janette Vanderwell (Richard), of Edmonton, AB, and Lizabeth (David Houston), of Regina, SK;  grandchildren, Krista Short, of Moncton, NB, Sandy Brydon, of Calgary, AB, Will Brydon (Cory Demers), of Victoria, BC, Elizabeth Brydon, of Surrey, BC, Theresa Vanderwell (Jeff Canavan), of Edmonton, AB, Adrian Vanderwell (Katherine), of Edmonton, AB, Albert Vanderwell, of Edmonton, AB, and Rosalind McGregor (Robert Bugler), of Belle River, ON; and great-grandchildren, Christopher, Amy, Meghan Short, and Sam Thibodeau, all of Moncton, NB, Bailey Brydon Demers, of Victoria, BC, and Robert Bugler, Jr., of Belle River, ON.    

She was predeceased by her husband Bill Brydon, parents, Margaret and William Tucker; sisters, Doreen Frizzley, and Wilma Nadon; nieces, Sharon Frizzley, Gail and Jill Nadon; nephew Robert Brydon, and granddaughter Ann Marie Vanderwell.
            
Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McInnis and Holloway (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive, S.W., Calgary, Alberta) on Saturday, August 28, 2021, between 3:30 and 5:30 p.m.

Funeral Services will be held at Scarboro United Church (134 Scarboro Avenue, S.W., Calgary, AB), on Sunday, August 29, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery.  A reception will be held, following the Graveside Service at the Scarboro Community Hall (1727 14th Avenue, S.W., Calgary, AB).  Condolences, memories and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
