Condolences
Gary and Isa were our neighbors in Calgary in the early 70s. I was a little kid, but I remember them well. One day a Polish hockey team visited their home, the national team I think. I remember being tossed around by huge hockey players. We have a photo of my sister wearing a garland of dandelions Isa made. A half a century later, the Hughes crossed my mind tonight while I was watching Olympic hockey, so I Googled Gary and found this memorial. I'm sorry to hear that he recently passed. I also saw his name in the roster of the CC NCAA hockey champions Wiki page. I seem to recall that a lot of the guys on that team became geologists. :) Peace and love from Denver.

I worked for Gary at Noyes Supervision when I was Manager of Completions in 1980-81 and had the highest of respect for him. My sincerest condolences to his loving family and friends for your loss.
There was a time when I knew Gary quite well from a business and professional association, having worked for him from 1973 to 1976 and again from 1993 to 1998 at Noyes Supervision. During the intervening 17 years I was in regular contact with Gary when employing his consultants to "sit" many wells for me in a busy exploration dept. Gary was a respected business man and was always firm but fair in all my dealings with him, and a very good person to work for. He also had a reputation for toughness, mentally and physically. He was of a generation where toughness counted; particularly in the hockey world; and I remember being told he was never one to back away from a good old fashioned, gentlemanly round of fisticuffs when necessary. My most sincere condolences to all Gary's family. My thoughts are with you.

Jackie & Jarrett,
My sincerest sympathies. Gary was truly a very benevolent man who deeply loved his family. Your sense of loss will be great, but your close relationship has fostered many special memories that will be richly cherished. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
