Condolences
From Dave & Lyndey Fryer,
I first met Ken in 1996 when my cousin Wayne and myself come over to Calgary to do some work for my other cousin (Wayne’s brother).
Rick met up with us and introduced us to Ken & Chuck who we instantly enjoyed their sense of humour and to sit at table 49.
For the rest of the ten days we were in Calgary we met up several times and on one occasion Ken took us to King Eddie’s Blues club and what a great night we had.
Over the next few years Lyndey, Victoria and I visited with Rick & Christina and we always looked forward to seeing Ken & Chuck .
On another occasion Ken, Rick, & Chuck picked me up from the Airport, with Lyndey & Victoria going home with Christina. Well, after a 13 hour flight, no sleep it didn’t take long to get me inebriated.
However, I managed to get my own back when Ken came to Toronto to visit R&C and we enjoyed OctoberFest.
Very fond memory, sadly missed, God Bless Ken.
I met Ken in Calgary early in my career as an illustrator. He was a kind and and welcoming man with a wicked sense of humour. In time a group of young designers and artists and their partners formed close friendships. Ken's sister Kathryn ("Scratch") quickly became part of the crew. We would regularly meet over drinks to talk about art or just shoot the breeze. Instructors from ACAD would join on occasion as well as other young illustrators looking for community in what is often a solitary profession.
Kari and I are so saddened to hear of Ken's passing. We will always cherish those memories of Ken. We wish him love and peace.

Laura and I have many fond memories of Ken. Kathryn and Ken visited us in Germany in ~1993, we went bicycling in France and then sailing in Greece. The following year we went sailing together in the British Virgin Islands. We recall anchoring out and rowing into a small town that had the most meager of grocery stores and were ready to just subsist on the chips (+ rum) we had on board the boat. And then Ken took over, he scrounged around what was available, chatted with the store owner and filled a small basket We rowed back out to the boat and he prepared a gourmet meal for us all. The man was without equal when it came to galley skills. Artist, epicurean, wine lover, old soul, (gentle soul), gentleman. No words can ease the loss

I'm sorry to hear of Ken's death and send my sympathy to Diane and Kathryn and their families. I remember times spent at the Bessie house when we were teenagers, enjoying meals, playing croquet, laughing at Ken's jokes. A long time ago but good memories. I am sorry for your loss. - Keith Walker
I am so deeply sorry to hear of Ken’s passing, we worked together for two years at liquor lane. He was always such a pleasure to work with and was such a positive person to be around. My condolences to Ken’s family
My condolences to Ken's sisters on their loss of a dear individual. Ken and I first crossed paths in the early 1990s, and went on to work on numerous projects together. He as a designer; me as an editor and general pain in the butt. He seldom laughed out loud, but his smile was telling. It was filled with mirth and good cheer. I learned a lot about the graphic design and printing from Ken -- lessons that I will carry with me always. Keep on smiling, my friend. I'll miss you.
Diane and Kathryn, I met you two and Ken as kids through the Quick family. We connected off and on through the years, again through the Quicks. Then for three years in Edmonton, Dan and I had many scrub baseball games, concerts and Trivial Pursuit challenges with you two, Kathryn and Ken. That was when we got to know him best, his off-beat sense of humor and gentle nature.
Diane and Rob, Kathryn and Lyle, we are so sorry for your loss.
I first met Ken in 1990, and worked closely with him for about twenty years. He was a talented perfectionist when it came to design, and we spent a lot of time together as writer/designer on a wide variety of projects. Whether in his design studio or late at night doing press checks, I was privileged to know Ken on a personal level. He exemplified the saying that still waters run deep. His dry sense of humor, love of wine, and critical observations of life remain with me to this day.
Kathryn, to you and your entire family, I'm so sorry for your loss.

Kathryn, Lyle, Diane and Rob:
I’m so sorry for this loss. Ken was a generous, intelligent, playful, gentle man. I feel so fortunate to have been his friend and graphic design colleague. Then there was his green grape pie.
Love, Carrie Goodrich
Kathryn and Lyle, Diane and Rob, we have lost a friend but you have lost your brother. Our thoughts are with all of you at this time. We will always remember the food, the wine, the good times spent together. And we will always remember Ken.

Hi Kathryn and Lyle,
Big hug to both of you! I'll remember Ken as one of a gang of creative types - the one who could cook magnificently, had that quirky laugh, and usually sported a handsome stubble. This was a fast and unexpected loss and I am so sorry for both of you, especially you Kathryn - who I always saw as one as Ken's best friends. You two were an amazing team of adventurers. Miss you both. xo Christina Vester
