Obituary of Rita Jean Franklin
August 31, 1947 -Lake Providence, Louisiana
September 29, 2021 - Calgary, Alberta
When the sun rose in 1947 on August 31, in Lake Providence, LA, Carrie Marie Brown and Tommy Layton received a beautiful gift from God, a baby girl – Rita Jean Layton. Her life’s journey brought joy and positivity to all those she encountered.
As a young lady on the then-campus of Grambling College, she met the future love of her life, Russel Franklin. On October 11, 1969, their commitment of love blossomed to a few days short of fifty-two years of marriage. That union was blessed with two sons, Ian Derale and Talton Cass (Nikki). Moving from their home in Morgan City, Louisiana, to Calgary, Alberta, Canada in May of 1973, sealed a permanent bond as they leaned on each other miles away from families of orientation.
As she lovingly cared for her family, her faith in God never wavered. Just as she was committed to Russel as the head of the family, she remained committed to God as the head of her life. Her loyalty to being studious to the Word led her to unite with Rocky View Alliance. Her latter years found her full of life and sharing uninterrupted love for her family and her treasure of joy, “her grands”, Stella, Donovan and Quincy. When the sun set on September 29, 2021, the Lord welcomed Rita to her new home, a mansion at One Heaven’s Lane, Paradise Kingdom.

A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, October 7, 2021, at 11:00 am. Family and friends are invited to join Mrs. Franklin's service streamed live at https://www.rockyviewalliance.com/rockyview-videos on the day of the service.
