Obituary of James Hugh CONNORS

Jim Connors, beloved husband of Cynthia Connors (nee Stockwood), of Calgary, AB, passed away on Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at the age of 70 years.

Jim Connors was born on July 5, 1951 in St. John’s, NL and was the eldest of six children. He grew up on Bell Island, NL, where he lived until 1969 when his family moved to St. John’s. This is where he met his wife Cynthia in 1972. They moved to Calgary, AB in 1973 to begin their life together, and were married shortly after on November 24, 1973. It was at this time that Jim started his career at Royal Insurance, where he remained for forty years until his retirement in 2013. In 1977 Jim and Cynthia moved to Red Deer, AB, where they started their family by welcoming their eldest son Brad in January, 1979. In 1981 they moved back to Calgary, where they purchased their forever home. Over the next eight years they were fortunate enough to have sons, Scott (1982), and Sean (1987); and daughter Danielle (1989). Jim loved to spend time curling with his wife and friends, and was frequently found on the golf course. Jim’s true passion was his family. There was nothing Jim found more joy in than being a father. In July 2009, his first grandchild (and birthday buddy) Emily was born, and he became Papa. Adam, Jack, Benjamin, Chloe, and Brynlee were added to the family tree, as all of Jim’s children married and started families of their own. Jim’s grandchildren became his pride and joy. His favorite activities became going to watch soccer games, hockey practice, playing at the park, and going for ice cream. He perfected the role of Papa, and cherished every moment of family time. Jim’s positive attitude and generous soul were felt by everyone fortunate enough to know him. He was selfless, never complained, and was the first to offer help to anyone who needed it. His family was blessed to call him husband, dad and papa.

Besides his loving wife Cynthia, Jim is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Brad and Tania, Scott and Elysia, and Sean and Jessica; daughter and son-in-law, Danielle and Jason; and grandchildren, Emily, Adam, Jack, Benjamin, Chloe, and Brynlee. He is also survived by his brothers, Hugh, Keith (Sandra), and Reid (Jackie); sister-in-law Lucy, sister Denise, and many other nieces, nephews, and cousins in Newfoundland and Calgary. He was predeceased by his father Hugh in 1978, mother Ellen in 2013, and brother Gary in 2019. 

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB) on Friday, October 8, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. Those attending will be asked to confirm one of the following, (A) COVID vaccination (date requested), OR (B) a negative COVID test (within 72 hours), OR (C) Medical exemption AND valid government identification (with name & date of birth) OR (D) Under 12 years of age.
