Obituary of Rhonda Denise Sedgewick (nee Chop)

February 6, 1972 - Calgary, Alberta

October 10, 2021 - Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Rhonda Sedgewick at the age of 49 after a courageous battle of almost ten years with an autoimmune disorder and an incurable lung disease. She passed peacefully with her family by her side.

Born and raised in Calgary, Rhonda graduated from Bishop Grandin High School in 1990, working various jobs before later graduating from SAIT with a diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology and working for AHS until her health failed. Rhonda will always be remembered as a kind, caring, unselfish person who always put others before herself. She was never one to complain about anything, even her own failing health, she always said, “It is what it is, and I’ll deal with it”.

She leaves behind to mourn her sons, Brandon Sedgewick and Shayne Sedgewick (fiancé Michayla Lonechild); her parents, John and Jacky Chop; and brother Greg Chop, all of Calgary. Rhonda also leaves behind her dear aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

A special thank you to the kind and compassionate doctors, nurses and staff at the ICU unit 28 at the Peter Lougheed Centre.

There will be no service but a Celebration of Rhonda’s Life to be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, memorial tributes in Rhonda’s name may be made directly to the Alberta Lung Association, P.O. Box 4500, Station South, Edmonton, AB T6E 6K2 Telephone: 1 (888) 566 – 5864.  www.ab.lung.ca, or a charity of your choice. Condolences, memories and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
